Apologies for the vanity post. But I want to rant a bit.
In the past few months, ping lists have proliferated to the point of annoyance. And it is especially irksome to find oneself on a list without having requested inclusion.
There's a word for this:

Ponder this question, Chester: Did I ask to be on your #%&@ing ping list? No? Well, then. Draw the logical conclusion. If I wish to be on your ping list, rest assured you'll be the first to know. But while you wait with bated breath for my entreaty to be a party to your wisdom, I'll thank you not to make the assumption that I consider your blog indispensable.
Personally, I'd like to see pinging stopped entirely, via the placing of a limit on the number of people a post may be directed to -- preferably one, but no more than five, in my opinion. But failing that, it should at least be the case that unsolicited spam has no place on Free Republic.

I think he knows, dorben. And I think that's what keeps him going. However, it's words like yours that LETS HIM KNOW in the first place. :0)
BTW, this thread is amazing to me. I just had to opt out of most of the ping lists I am on. It was easy, and all complied with my request. Then when I'm ready, all I have to do is let them know I'd like to be put back on. Again, easy to do.
My problem with the My Comments page has to do with the graphics, too. It's too hard to get down through them, but I don't want to turn them off in options; because that would turn the text off, too. Having the text there saves time of having to open the threads.
In addition, I don't like my own comments showing up and mixed in with messages from other people. I sure wish that could be fixed. Takes up too much space when trying to get to the meat of the pings.

I'm on the pro-ping side Honest-to-God, if I wasn't on a ping list, I would miss everything pertaining to me and my interests! I don't do searches very well. So, getting notified or "pinged," is really good for me!!!

Too bad you don't see pinging and ponging as an offer of friendship and solidarity. If I am "pinged" individually, I might see it as that, but when I'm pinged on an alphabetical list where I don't even see my name, I see it as spam. I get enough of that in my mailbox.

With each ping, I state that if anyone wants to be removed to just click a link that sends me a freepmail. Good grief - it requires two clicks to be taken off the Foxhole list. How hard is that?
Seems to me that this requires me to read the post, which I don't if the subject doesn't interest me.
My suggestion, since we have vanities popping up all the time, is that when a ping list is started a vanity post reading "ATTENTION: Do you want to be on my ping list regarding so-and-so?" might work. Bump it a couple of times. The vanity police might howl, but I think it would be an easier and politer way to go.
