Hilary Rosen would prefer it if the world's youth didn't think she was hopelessly uncool. She has an iPod. She counts both Al and Tipper Gore, as well as the rapper Chuck D, among her close friends. She helped found Rock the Vote, for God's sake. So, let me think about this: By downloading music, I'm helping to preserve the Bill of Rights by taking money out of the pockets of these bastards who fund all the organizations trying to take my rights?!
KaZaa, here I come....

Love that tagline

Defund the left, heh.. I often wonder why we don't see Barbra Streisand offering her CD releases free to the poor.

As a conservative, I'm all for piracy!!! RIAA and their idiot clients have been screeching about how evil capitalism is and greedy Republicans are for decades. Let's help them realize their fondest socialist wishes and make them be really, really poor.

Y'know, I just had a thought on another thread where someone was upbraiding me (incorrectly) about stealing...
What is the difference between defunding the left by downloading and sharing music and The Boston Tea Party?
Is this the new Boston Tea Party?

MP3s ARE stealing, unless you own the album/CD.
To: DAnconia55
Rosen says ANY copying of CD's even for personal use is illegal, copying a CD to an MP3 player based on her own statements is illegal... yet she seems to be doing it herself, unless she is only using her iPod to Audible audio books

I'm sort of agnostic about whether it's stealing or not -- I suspect lots of folks try and then buy music they might not otherwise give a listen to because it's free. I also think people listen to stuff they wouldn't pay $18 for but might pay $5 for, if the RIAA actually did market based pricing. You can't deny, though, some people do download stuff they might otherwise buy. I also think the record companies blew it bigtime by not just buying Napster and charging $10 or $15 a month subscription service -- they would have made a ton of money.
My point is most of the music industry has been busy as bees preaching socialism and communism and talking about how dreadful capitalism is. So I waste no tears when they then come back and whine about how people are listening to music they haven't paid for, how could they! Well, listen up, Mr. Guitarist, you've been singing about how the taxpayers should pay for everything and how businesses making a profit is evil, so why are you so freaking shocked when people won't pay you? You reap what you sow, dude.
And yea, on a practical level if Barbara Streisand and Sheryl Crow and Courntney Love and the rest of the freak show suddenly have no money to fund the whole alphabet soup of left wing causes, that suits me just fine. If conservatives were as principle-less as the left claims, we'd giving Kazaa/Morpheus/Gnutella away on streetcorners (in the same neighborhoods where the Dems are registering dogs/illegal aliens/dead people to vote!) But, as you know, the conservatives who think it's stealing won't even steal from the commies. Where is the supposedly ruthless conservative will to power when you need it?

Please don't pirate the classical music industry, however.
They're having a difficult enough time of it as it is.

What is the difference between defunding the left by downloading and sharing music and The Boston Tea Party? The tax on tea was less than the tax regulated on blank tapes?
