Subject: Montauk Peace Train

Invitation: For the Feb 15 NYC anti-war demonstration, perhaps our last best effort to publicly register our opposition before the beginning of this calamity-in-the-offing, the Unitarians will have a poster and banner making party Wed night at 7:00 with soup, garlic bread & refreshments. There will be the first East End peace service at the First Chuch of Peace in Bridgehampton's Baptist Church on the Turnpike, Rev. Faison, pastor at 6:30 pm. Come to our party afterwards at the Water Mill Community Center.

We will have materials--poster board, magic markers & paint for your use. We will finaize arrangements for the UUCSF's Montauk Peace Train. We will need two monitors at each station to collect money and hand out tickets and posters. Ruth Lang got a $100. donation from Hugh King this evening to buy seats on train for students. We now have $250. in our scholarship fund for students' fares. We will have ad in the South Hampton Press, perhaps the Independent too.

Have you already made a firm decision to go to demonstration? Time is getting shorter. Reserve your seat today or to pledge to our scholarship fund, call Ruth lang (deleted) or Bill Dalsimer (deleted) or George Wilson (deleted)

IF YOU DID NOT RECIEVE OUR INFORMATION ON THE MONTAUK PEACE TRAIN:

The Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork in Water Mill is planning to provide transportation to high school and college students on the South Fork at discount price of $4. each way to join the anti war rally in New York City onboard the Montauk Peace Train.

The UUs will be asking peace activists to pay for scholarships for students. Regular fares will be $16. round trip. The group will take two cars from Montauk, NY.

The Montauk Peace Train (aboard last two cars) will leave the Montauk station at 6:45 AM on Saturday, Feb. 15 with stops in Amagansett, East Hampton (7:10 AM). Bridgehampton (7:20 AM) stop at Southampton 7:28 AM, Hampton Bays 7:41 AM, West Hampton 7:53 AM, Speonk at 8:00 AM and Bellport, 8:21 before joining millions of fellow Americans in hundreds of cities across the United States and more than 50 capitals across the globe to say no to the madness of the threatened war against Iraq..

Already they are cutting health services for the poor. Southampton Hospital just laid off 5% of its workforce and Accabonac Clinic in East Hampton has made cuts to the bones where now a simple blood test takes 3 months to schedule, and weeks to make an appointment even when sick. Now Pataki is talking about cutting money for education.

It will get worse as this military escalation will continue to eat through the social fabric of our democracy. Many in the faith community at last will now begin to actively mobilize in opposition to this war. The train is leaving. Pack your bags, get out your marchin' shoes here we go again."

"We have a limited number of seats and reservations on the Montauk Peace Train which will be on a first come basis," said Richard Flynn, an East Hampton Viet Nam Vet and member of the UU Social Action Committee.

Reservations for the Montauk Peace Train are being taken by Ruth Lang (deleted) in East Hampton and Bridgehampton and by Bill Dalsimer in Southampton and points west at (deleted) People can make donations to pay for a seat for another person if they cannot attend by calling the above numbers.

Good news! We have secured an assembly point for the "World Says No to War" protest on February 15. The New York City Police Department has offered a permit for a noon rally on First Avenue stretching north from 49th Street, which is within sight of the United Nations. This is an important victory, and we are confident that February 15 will be a day of massive, peaceful, powerful protest in New York City.

Just FYI for NY and CT FReepers. If you need a cheap ride to NYC from CT or eastern LI on Feb. 15th for the counter demonstration, don't bathe or shave for the rest of the week and slip into the crowd. Or if you just wish to harass the numb skulls for the entire train ride down. Or if you are just looking for locations to set up your demonstrations.

Phone numbers were given in the email, but I chose to deleted them for no particular reason other than I thought it might be problematic.

The numerous typos by the author of the notice speak well for their messed up thinking.
