Egypt hiding weapons in tunnels: Evidence of WMD program concealed in area of Libya border

For years, Egypt has been engaged in missile and weapons of mass destruction programs with countries such as Iraq and North Korea, reports Geostrategy-Direct, the online intelligence newsletter. The problem was that CIA had difficulty uncovering these programs.

Now, after years of searching, the CIA has come up with the reason.

Egypt has devised a concealment and deception program that exceeds that of North Korea's, intelligence operatives say. Many of the Egyptian missile and WMD programs are based in the Sahara and huge Western deserts between Egypt and Libya.

The two countries have built a series of tunnels along the Egyptian-Libyan border. The tunnels conceal development and production of North Korean missiles and nuclear weapons components from the prying eyes of Israeli and U.S. spy satellites.

North Korea reportedly built the tunnel network. Pyongyang used its expertise in digging its way to South Korea for the Egyptian and Libyan concealment program.

North Korea currently is working on a mega-tunnel project through Libya. Thousands of North Korean workers are building a reinforced concrete tunnel that is 1,300 feet underground and can't be destroyed even by U.S. nuclear weapons. Or, at least that is the hope by Egypt and the Libyans.

The presence of so many North Korean as well as Filipinos in Libya has not been easy to hide. That's where the deception comes in. Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi has told Western guests that the laborers are going to build a 2,000-mile tunnel from Egypt to Tunisia in what the colonel calls the "Great Man-Made River Project."

Quietly, U.S. officials have probed Egypt for information on the project. Egyptian officials, who have stymied every U.S. investigation on Iraqi- or North Korean-linked WMD programs, have shrugged their shoulders.

They've always claimed, since PM Bhutto in 70's who started the Paki nuke program, that it was to create and Islamic bomb to counter the Christian, Jewish and then Hindu bombs.

Bhutto was nominally a progressive secularist, but virtually mad with his delusions of islamic grandeur and the desire to show his Arab masters how islamic he could be in kowtowing to them.

His duaghter continued the program, even travelling to NKorea; established the taliban and looked the other way at Khan's games.

But since she talks the talk and a muslim leader, the media fawns all over her. Didja see Benazir on Greta? Jeez, Greta, just cut the lovefest short and simply staart by licking her shoes.

'Pak Army never controlled nukes'

LONDON: Former Chief of the Pakistani army, General Mirza Aslam Beg , said the army has "never been in control" of Pakistan's nuclear programme, except in times of military rule.
Participating in BBC World's Hardtalk Pakistan programme, Gen Beg insisted that he knew nothing of the leaking of nuclear secrets by Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan , despite conceding that information was being passed to other nations while he was in charge of the army between 1988 and 1991.

Asked on what basis he was stating that he knew nothing of Dr Khan's activities, Gen Beg said: "A Q Khan had never been answerable to the army chiefs, whether it was me or the four army chiefs that had come after me."

Asked who was controlling the nuclear programme at the time he was the Chief of the Army Staff, Gen Beg said: "That was the Chief Executive, Benazir Bhutto . The then President, Ghulam Ishaq Khan, who had been part of the programme since 1976 when Z A Bhutto who initially initiated it and he remained with the programme until 1992, when he retired.

Beg said that the current international anti- proliferation measures were unfair to Muslim countries.

"Yes, it is duplicity, heartburn and humiliation of the Muslim world. What right does Israel have to have such capability, having more than 400 nuclear warheads when their neighbours don't pose any threat to them?," he asked.

Describing Israel as a threat to the entire region, he said Israel's neighbours should be allowed to own nuclear weapons.

"They have a right to have the capabilities to defend themselves and their national interests," he said.

UK Financial Times says that Britain and France have proposed an EU Rapid Reaction force consisting of 1500 soldier battlegroups and want agreements from all members by June 30.
The force will become operational by 2007. One battlegroup will be expected to deploy within 15 days, under UN mandate if necessary.
The new plan replaces an older plan for a rapid reaction corps of 60,000 personnel because the EU Nations dont have the troops.

All except 3 of the US Army's divisions are on overseas duty or rotating. If Europe thinks a 1500 soldier battlegroup in 15 days is "Rapid Reaction", and if this continent that has a GNP equaling that of the US and a larger population cannot even put together a 3-division corps, we suggest the EU disband its armies and pay India and Pakistan to provide troops for European defense and interests.

For what the EU pays 1 soldier it would get 4, and Indian and Pakistani troops never complain, no matter what the hardships. Always providing, of course, their battalion officers share the hardships with them, and the battalion officers always do. Orbat.com is happy to provide free a list of 15 Indian and 8 Pakistani divisions that could be made available for oversees deployment. Our scheme has the benefit of removing from the arena the strike forces and reserves of both sides: A South Asian war would become impossible. We think the EU should use some of its savings to pay Orbat.com. Clearly we have better ideas.

Dear friends
I have read your articles and comments and I was fascinated by your great awareness by our Arab world but also I was astonished by the massive misunderstanding that governs your minds, everyone of you is supposing that Muslims are a big group of terrorists and tough minded people who doesn’t see anything but war against the infidels (Kuffar). Well this is entirely wrong and your method of thinking is entirely out of logic because in every society the people are classified into types there is the liberals, the conservatives, the secularists and also there is the group of people, which you call the Terrorists. Here you fall in the big mistake, which is putting the whole people of the Islamic world in one group, which is the terrorist group. I am one of the Muslims and I don’t believe in Osama Bin Laden and I consider him and all his fellows as traitors to the Islamic and Arab communities because he uses the force and violence but also I condemn the United States and Israel using of force and violence. Gorge Bush and Areal Sharon and Osama Bin Laden all of them have failed to use the peaceful negotiations and instead they shifted to the use of power and military attacks. If we considered Bush a terrorist we cannot consider all the American people like him and the same role should be applied to Osama Bin Laden and Muslims.
I am a devoted Muslim who do my five daily prayers and go to the Mosque but I have never been agreeable with any call for the use of violence against the others who don’t agree with us, and the majority of our people are just like me. We want to live in peace and to love each other, and we want justice.

In addition I want to correct some common errors in your thinking ;
1- Concerning the Pakistan nuclear weapons, it has never come to our thought that their atomic bombs are Islamic ones facing the Christian atomic bomb. I consider this type of thinking very childish because Pakistan has developed its nukes in response to the Indian threats and not to help the other Islamic world countries and all of us know that in the field of international affairs things doesn’t go like this “Islamic bomb facing Christian bomb” this is so funny.
2- Some persons say that Egypt and Libya are both building tunnels to hide their weapons of mass destruction, well we all know that people who say that are watching a lot of science fiction movies because Egypt and Libya are both heavily loaded with debts and massive internal problems and they both cannot afford such costs, besides the Libyan Egyptian relations are not stable enough to make the Egyptian officials felling safe in dealing in such serious stuffs. You shouldn’t repeat the same error twice you have assumed and Iraq is possessing WMD and you destroyed the whole country for searching those weapons and finally you didn’t find any, so please be sure about what you are saying and don’t just accuse the people haphazardly.
3- I have read comments from some persons saying that Pakistan are going to sell nukes to both Saudia and Libya, this could kill me from laugh.

The stupid American invasion of Iraq has damaged its picture in our minds and raised hate towards the American administration in the Islamic world; we don’t want to repeat this tragedy again.

The existence of vast fossil aquifers in the south and south-east areas of the country has prompted the building of a huge pipeline to convey water to the coastal areas.

Started in 1980 the Great Man-Made River project is the largest engineering scheme currently being carried out in the world.

The Great Man-Made River Authority (GMRA) was invested with the responsibility of extracting water from the aquifers in the South and conveying it for use in the Libyan coastal belt.

The 4-meter diameter conduit is about 1.600 km long. This huge pipeline supplies water to the cities of Tripoli, Benghazi, Sirt and other settlements. The amount of water transfered daily is 6.5 million m3.

Since 1990, UNESCO has been contributing to the training of engineers and technicians, the setting up of a training center and the establishment of a technical documentation centre.

Thanks Fred. This looks like a kinda silly idea to me; seems like it would make much more sense to sink wells into these aquafers and pay the Israelis to train the Libyans on trickle irrigation techniques.
