March 1st, 1-3PM. Spokane, WA. Spokane Veterans'Memorial Arena located on Boone between Washington and Monroe I was eleven years old when my father went to serve in Vietnam. I remember the antiwar protests and the anxiety and anguish. I remember watching the evening news and if my father's base had been shelled looking at the men on the litters on the news to see if my father was one of them. Then days of waiting to see if we would hear other news.Waiting for a letter from my father dated after the shelling. I am a Vietnam Era veteran, Army Nurse Corp. My brother served in the Air Force and now my niece serves in the Air Force. I had six uncles that served in various branches of the Armed Forces. Two who lost their lives in WWII. Sons of German immigrants to America. One lost his life in Normandy. I rally because the memories of a child who who saw a father who never received the thanks or recognition or respect from a nation he served. I want to let him know......I love him.
