TV IS NOT RADIO: The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD) says it "has issues" with the content of Michael Savage's syndicated talk radio program, but it is more concerned now with the MSNBC talk show he is scheduled to begin this weekend.
GLAAD spokesman Michael Young says the organization has been assured it can meet this week with Robert Wright, president of MSNBC's parent, NBC, to express its concerns.
"We've heard the kind of things Savage says on the radio," says Young. "He bashes women, people of color, immigrants, anyone who isn't a straight white male.
"But for the most part, the stations that carry his show are catering to a right-wing audience. We think a TV news channel, where people presumably tune for a more balanced presentation, is a different animal and should be held to higher journalistic standards."
Savage, whose radio show airs nightly from 8-10 on WABC (770 AM), calls GLAAD a bunch of would-be censors and says he's confident the TV show will launch this Saturday as planned.
"If MSNBC does run the show," says Young, "at the very least we would like assurances Savage will be held accountable for what he says."

I'm posting this because of this moronic statement used to justify the protest of the tv show and not radio:
"But for the most part, the stations that carry his show are catering to a right-wing audience. We think a TV news channel, where people presumably tune for a more balanced presentation, is a different animal and should be held to higher journalistic standards."
'You shut up, they'll decide.'

Yep, nothing says "high journalistic standards" like "Joe Millionaire," "the Bachelorette" and "American Idol."

I would like assurances that GLAAD will be held accountable for what THEY say.

In other words unless it completely endorses their left wing agenda and censors out everything else it shouldn't be seen.
I didn't see any of them complaining about Donahue's full left wing tilt.
Kind of like most of these same guys didn't complain about Clinton's war in Kosovo.

I'm listening to a Savage re-broadcast of today's show now.
And, his book, The Savage Nation, awaits on the shelf behind me--have to finish Gertz' Breakdown first.
God forbid we offend homosexuals who orchestrate "fisting" demos for middle schools.
Memo to GLAAD: eat it.

Just wondering - When does Savage's new show start? Anyone got a day/time for the first show?

TV has higher standards? Newt Minnow described TV as a "wasteland" some 40 years ago. And it gone downhill ever since. Who would have thought that we would look back with admiration and nostalgia to "Leave it to Beaver"?

GLAAD is a domestic terrorist group. It perverts the meaning of words such as "fairness" and "tolerance", in order to rape us of our civil rights.

MSNBC Host, Savage Nation

Brownshirts is the perfect reference here.
For those who may not recall, before the Nazis got to power (1933), they had a neat way of discouraging political opponents and their supporters: they would send the SA ("brownshirts", named because of their attire), roving bands of Nazi thugs, around to the meetings to intimidate and scare through violence. It worked, and by 1932, the Nazi Party got more votes than any other.
70 years later, another group is trying to suppress opposing views, and although GLAAD's intimidation methods are verbal and legal, not violent, they are still cowardly and morally reprehensible. These groups have been using these tactics in Canada for 20 years now, and have managed to scare off any dissenting voices in our media, government, and courts, with their shrill cries of "homophobe!".
Bravo to Savage for standing up to the pro-censorship bullies!

TV's higher journalistic standards? Like Rather's interview with Saddam? Brit Hume reported that Rather practiced the questions in advance in his hotel room, OUT LOUD, in front of a mirror, all thirty of them. In spite of the fact that he knew that Iraqi hotel rooms are routinely bugged. And the phony accent of the actor reading the translation?
Those higher TV journalistic standards?

We think a TV news channel, where people presumably tune for a more balanced presentation, is a different animal and should be held to higher journalistic standards. MSNBC is not a TV channel it is a cable channel and Savage is not a journalist, the show Savage is replacing is probably some nature show.
OTOH: I think Savage will probably fail due to his limited range of issues and awful time slot. I don't see Savage having a show with production values equal to that of Limbaugh's old TV show, which also failed due to bad placement.
Even Savage's core audience of Saturday Afternoon shut-ins will grow weary of the "Angry White Male" sthick.

"Leave It To Beaver" had "bright line" moral precepts and espoused decent, upright behavior. The people you were supposed to like in that show wouldn't have been comfortable working in X42's White House.
