Update

Due to copyright restrictions, we are suspending our CNN, Fox, and Bloomberg streams.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

TOPICS: Announcements; Extended News; Miscellaneous; News/Current Events; Technical
KEYWORDS: cablecompanies; cablenewsnetwork; cnn; fnc; foxnews; foxnewschannel
Let this be a lesson to everyone:

There are no - ZERO, NONE, NADA - "legitimate" live streams of CNN, FNC or MSNBC on the net.

If you learn of one, you'd better keep it to yourself, because once you start spreading the word, you've just guaranteed it's going to get discovered by lawyer scum and forced offline permanently. We all want live streaming again, so if you tell one single person, it's inevitable that they're going to tell "just one really good friend," and it's just the Domino Theory in action from there.

You can watch the TV news live on your computer with RealPlayer or Windows Media Player or a program like that.

I told everyone when I unwittingly pointed to them in the first place. I told you then that this was something that could easily go away if it was abused.

Yes, there are some event-based streams that show up from time to time. When I get wind of them, I'll mention them. Please be aware that they are event-based streams. When the live coverage ends, the streams go away.

You can get live CNN/CNNI audio - if you pay for it. You can get live ABC video and audio - if you pay for it. You can get live BBC World video and audio - if you pay for it. All three are available via the RealOne subscription system. I can't justify another $10/month for something like that. Once content expands, I may change my tune - but not now.

The only legitimate live broad-based news network coverage out there is CTV NewsNet from Canada (and that's limited to 30 minute blocks).

I'll see if I can cobble together a list (my list on TVNA - http://www.geocities.com/mhking2/links.html - is hopelessly out of date) that can be used for breaking news streams.

FYI - when the war kicks off, there will be more live streams than we can keep up with. Expect CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, FNC, Bloomberg, CTV, CBC, BBC and many other networks to provide varying degrees of live, streaming coverage (and with varying degrees of reliability). I'll have a list as I get ahold of them.

Again, to reiterate, I'll be posting lists on an "as needed" and "as available" basis.

You would think some marketting genius would learn how easy it is to add ads to online streaming and the networks would go for it. I guess the limited availability of connections capable of watching streamed video is so small the ad revenues do not cover the cost of the bandwith. Owell just sit around and wait and tyhe future will come.
