I heard that a RG Division was in reserve north of Baghdad to counter us as we near Baghdad.. Now with this force and who knows what else we will airlift into that base...just made the Iraqis job defending Baghdad a lot harder.

How do you clear the way for armored tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles by seizing an airfield?

If its Kurdish controlled why are they saying 'seized'?

The Kurds control the territory generally, but not the airfield specifically. The Kurds never really had solid control of anything, just enough force to keep Saddam from having tight control.

How are the tanks going to get there?

Number of LRRPs and SLRPs also inserted by parachute. Found that helicopter making multiple diversionary landings was better.

Joe,

I was thinking that the drops in Vietnam and Panama involved less troops. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

" But, but, but, but, but -- I thought coalition forces were losing, per Reuters/AP/UPI/AFP/ABC News/CBS News/NBC News/CNN/MSNBC, etc? ;)"

It's obvious that Iraq does it's war planning by watching ABCCBSNBCCNN,etc. Thank God.

I think they're based in Italy.

Screw the Turks. After we form a viable unit up north, I say we let the Kurds take eastern Turkey.

They had to get something in from the North to make the Iraqis. It is starting to make total sense with all of the bombardments up in the North. And the noose is starting to tighten.

I believe that irregular Iraqi forces are running around in Toyota pick-up trucks pretending that these vehicles are tanks.

I don't know that you could resupply an armored division from an airport. The logistics would be a nightmare.

You're right, though. It would definitely tie up an Iraqi division just to make sure we didn't come down unopposed with Bradleys and choppers.

Like I told a college history teacher when he asked (sarcastically) how many troops you could get in by taking one airfield:

"All of them. Eventually."
