A good excuse to close the Mexican border but Toronto is the only non-oriental city to have a travel alert on it. According to Mark Steyn.

Masks and the women ... three Hong Kong women snapped on Tuesday in the streets of the city, which is reeling from the deadly pneumonia virus scare, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
It has claimed 15 lives in Hong Kong with 610 people infected.

This sadly may be necessary.

Thank goodness my bad illness has a wet, not a dry cough and my fever has gone down or I would be insisting the doc get a chest x-ray.

I can't blame them for snapping... I'd probably snap, too, if I was in a city that was reeling from the deadly pneumonia virus scare, severe acute respiratory syndrome

Question to anyone: Why does the prez need to sign an executive order? Wouldn't public health laws/regs already be in place to cover something like this?

Are they differentiating between confirmed and suspected? I've seen and heard the two used interchangably.

I can hear all of the Losertarians now once they get on this thread......

OK...then here from me first...you're an ass, this has nothing to do with a Libertarian/B-bot debate; this is a public health issue. Bush made the right choice. In allowing quarantine for SARS patients, he is taking the right measures to protect the republic. Nice try with the bait though.

And among the radical nutjob Stalinist left, we have this observation:

Obviously this is a conspiracy . . . between Bush and Ashcroft to imprison more people who disagree with them wrongfully, without a hearing. We need regime change!

I kid you not, and there is not a hint of irony or sarcasm in the thread.

Nope! Not may, it WOULD NOT have been widespread, period. Do a search on Bughunters. I may have the name wrong, but it's a group of people who actually "seek" the AIDS virus.

We still today allow gay bathhouses that facilitate tens of sexual contacts in a weekend, for those who are infected and wish to frequent them.

C Everett Coop, the CDC and a number of others should be prosecuted for the shameful way they facilitated the spread of this virus.

How can you distinguish between a wet and dry cough? Wierd question, but I very seldom get illness with coughs, but I am not exactly sure of the difference...

I read the other day that the best mask is the one with TWO straps. I see these ladies have the ones with two and not the one strap that you get when you just want a dust mask. I hadn't thought of that until I read it ... TWO straps!

A dry cough basically produces nothing, while a nice, gurgling wet cough produces things that resemble those little pads of butter you get at restaurants...

Whatever happened to that Northwest Airlines plance that they quarantined in San Jose last week? It was sitting on the tarmac with 2 sick passengers and 2 sick crew aboard.

How would have like to have been one of the other passengers -- stuck on the plane with sick people and not allowed to debark?

A wet cough is what Monica Lewinsky had in the Oval Office.
