Saddam orders compensation paid to families of Iraqi casualties

BAGHDAD (AFP) Apr 04, 2003 President Saddam Hussein has ordered the payment of compensation to the families of Iraqi casualties in the US-led war, Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said Friday. Ramadan, quoted on Iraqi satellite television, ordered "large financial aid" to be paid to civilians and fighters, effective from the start of the war on March 20.

In another populist move, Saddam also wants compensation paid to owners of homes destroyed by "the bombardments of the criminals", he said, without specifying amounts.

Iraq's government and official media have given various casualty figures for different parts of the country, often without specifying a time period or distinguishing between civilian and military losses.

An analysis of figures given by Baghdad indicates a minimum of 472 and a maximum of 844 Iraqis killed, and between 4,399 and 5,994 wounded.

Saddam must finally see the writing on the wall.
I don't think he'd make such an offer if he felt there was any way he'd have to pay it!

Dead man walking. Dead man talking.

Saddam's sure been pretty active today for a dead guy or a man on his death bed. In addition to "Black Hawk Down" and "Wag the Dog" for war strategy, the Iraqis must have watched "Weekend at Bernies" and "Weekend at Bernie's II" to get ideas.

Saddam orders compensation paid to families of Iraqi casualties

First of all, Saddam is dead, and so are his two psychoipath sons.

Second, even if someone did pay the families something the money isn't worth anything.

Third, there are so many casualties Saddams bank wouldn't have enough money for the compenstion to amount to anything.

Fourth, This is mearly a propaganda ploy to make the Iraqi people think they might get something of value. Nothing good will ever come of this announcement.

I found a penny in the parking lot today, thinking about it, it is too much compensation for the entire bunch.

We can live in peace with the muslims, but if they think they are the chosen, then lets bring it on.

Last dog standing is the winner...

Pray to our God for our troops...let him sort it out..

What a great concept......

The taxpaying citizens of the United States are about to pony up an additional EIGHTY THOUSAND MILLION DOLLARS for the war in Iraq.

The USA should be paid from the proceeds of oil sales ton the rest of the world, the $80 Billion, plus interest.

Furthermore, it makes sense to add in some compensation for the families of Americans killed in the war, and in the attacks on 9-11.

Additionally, compensation sould be due US for the damage to our economy and the gennerally crappy state of things thanks to the terrorists.

C'mon President Bush.......

Put America First!

Nah, he'll be untouched by any bombing in Baghdad, just like all the other people in SYRIA. Not hard to record tapes at your island paradise, either. Maybe that's why he doesn't have the current Iraqi paper?

Not gonna happen. "Gee thanks for invading us, now here's some money to cover the expenses of that!"

The money will be used for the rebuilding of Iraq, not to cover our own expenses. We knew at the start that it would cost at LEAST $80 bil, so everyone here knew exactly what we were getting into.

I appreciate your points, I agree it won't happen.

I still am bothered though, knowing that the American taxpayer will be paying to rebuild our enemy's country and provide food medicine and aid, for years to come (plus interest, this is deficeit spending).

While Iraq sits on some of the most bountiful oil reserves in the world.

I expect my elected officials to put AMERICANS first.

Like I said, I agree with you.......won't happen.
