"We disagree with these performers. We're going to say so, and then we're going to take away as much of their livelihood as possible."Funny, that is what the left say when they organize to intimidate sponsors of Rush, Dr. Laura, and other conservatives in the media. However, they are not taken to task, for their actions, by the mainstream media.
To: Chirodoc
'Blacklist'?
Nah, more like a 'you're a moron and you prove it by being a pinko and saying utterly stupid stuff' list.
Of course, basic black isn't a bad idea, as long as one grants the premise that the Hollyweird types HAVE any intelligence. No point in reconvening HUAC -- 99.x% of such dingalings couldn't testify without a script in hand anyway.

With this kind of argumentation that we've been hearing this past week the libs are going to finally rescue the reputation of Joe McCarthy without us lifting a finger. It's desperation time for the Left, maybe they need to call up on their intellectual heavyweights like pofesser Nicholas DeGenova!

Why is it that I have to let a person speak without interference, but I am not allowed the same privilege if my views are different? Sorry, I don't buy what is being sold as tolerence.
Once someone has insulted me, I have to hold up myself to self scrutiny before I respond? I don't think the same standard was used by the insulter.
Double standard abounds.

Unlike the performers of a century ago (or even less,) these personalities of the screen and arena stage are not used to audience response. They appear before loving TV or movie cameras, or on stage at $50+ a ticket just to see them and no one else. No one ever boos them! Heck, 50 years ago travelling rock'n'roll shows or burlesque performances had numerous performers and some were loved some hated. Now this trashy almighty dollar aristocracy lives in complete isolation from the rest of us, from their loving fans even. What a shock it is to hear boos and talk of boycotts!

Do we believe that we're a stronger society if everyone feels free to speak their minds, or is there an impulse to chill the speech of those with differing views? We are totally free to speak our minds. We are also totally free to criticize, ostracize, or marginalize those whose opinions we disagree with.
True story--a Jewish friend of mine was sitting at a bar in a restaurant (with his Jewish wife) waiting for a table to open up. The owner, a Greek (I know, what are the odds of that?), was exasperated by a table of four Jewish women who were giving him a hard time. On his way back to the kitchen to make a piece of steak less well-done, he made an anti-Semitic remark, loud enough for those at the bar to overhear. My friend and his wife walked out and never went back. When I was told, I boycotted the place, as did many of my friends, Jews and Christians alike. As far as I can see, free speech is still allowed, as are the consequences of such speech.
To: Chirodoc
The author of the article tangentially and negatively cited McArthy. The one thing that he didn't point out was that there ACTUALLY WERE Communist sympthasizers within the Hollywood elite.
Of course, one could make the same aruement now. I have asserted that myself. However, more and more, I am just thinking that they are just stupid.
That doesn't make them any less dangerous...in fact, maybe it makes them more dangerous? Couple their popularity with their stupidity and that it is a molotov cocktail for inflaming the ignorant masses with asinine punditry.
Again, these people are (mostly) high school drop-outs...what should we really expect?
Now, we look at people like Terry McAuliffe and the Clintons who know what they are saying is not good for the country. They know that what they are espousing goes against the precepts and foundations of this country. But, they do it anyway. And, they are in actual positions where they have the power to affect policy...that is what's scary.
That is why the liberals and the demonRAT party must be stopped DEAD in their tracks. If we don't, they will be the downfall of this country. Think about it, everything that the liberal left has done has been an effort failure and a parasite on the body of our country.
It is truly time for a conservative revolution. And, in the end, the Hollywood actors and actresses will be nothing more than high-school drop-outs with no ratins at the box office.

So, according to all of these whiners, we aren't allowed to refuse patronage of people with whom we disagree, for whatever reason. We cannot challenge them, or question their motives because we would be intolerant. However, they can call our president a dictator, a baby-killer, a war-monger, and generally attempt to destroy his character with lies. Only, they are exercising their rights of free speech. Do I have that correctly?

I do wonder, though, whether these calls for economic retaliation undercut the very freedoms we hold most dear. This idiot does not understand that the "freedom" is from the gov't: it must not interfere with one's speech. This does not mean that the neighbor cannot.
These Web site operators have heard some of these criticisms and are quick to assert that they're not guilty of McCarthyism. Again, McCArthy was a gov't representative, not a private citizen, like the site operators.
All he sees that they speak against him and he doesn't like it.

You just don't get it? That's called "direct action" in doublespeak. Only lefties can engage in direct action. Direct action is always good.
Or you can use other spin phrases: "This is an educational site. We feel the public has the right to know what's going on."

I just did a google search on him and it turns out he is one of our truly great actors, with DOZENS of TV credits, going back to the Ozzie and Harriet show of the early 60s, to a LOVE BOAT episode in '77 and MURDER SHE WROTE (which I always refer to as " "Columbo" for retards") in '94.

Let's take this movement back to it's very beginnings. I remember Anita Bryant getting slammed pretty good way back when, which probably chilled the free speech of many other showbiz folks of a similar mind. You just don't hear that kind of talk out of Hollywood anymore, but I'd be willing to bet there are folks in those parts who would like to speak their mind in that regard.
It goes both ways and shifts from time to time. I think we might be witnessing that now.
But, hey. There are political attitudes that it's unhealthy to express in my business too (a business that sells big iron machines that assist in resource extraction, and probably had three people in the whole country who voted for Gore). I don't share those particular beliefs myself, but I sorta feel for the ones that do.

They live very insulated lives, surrounded by @ss kissers and yes men, and they have no idea how the outside world works. They exist in a vaccuum, trapped inside a community where most everyone else thinks exactly as they do, and when they step outside and spout their garbage and are met with disagreement and disdain, they throw a tantrum like the spoiled children that they are. They can't imagine or accept that other people think for themselves and don't think the way they do.
