Hm....two shows I think suck anyway.
To: adamyoshida
SMALLVILLE is a good conservative show.

UPN seems to be an "also ran" but.....as much as I LOVE FOX NEWS CHANNEL...and watch it, exclusively, for new....the FOX entertainment programming has always been GARBAGE...anti-family, full of sex, bad language, etc.
So no surprise here, really...

Do your brain a favor -- stop watching TV. Then you won't have to waste your time over problems such as these.

Good essay! Thanks! :)
BTW, Smallville is not conservative. Businessmen are represented as evil. Just more Hollywood neo-Marxism.

"... used by people who were trying to provoke a war ... to push up the price of their Caspian Sea Oil reserves." I must have missed that episode. I haven't heard it uttered at all. I still enjoy the program nonetheless.
As to Buffy, eh. Never really followed it. But it seems to me that the ultimate evil would be doing some denegrating things to all-things Judeo-CHristian. And marketing-wise, Easter week would get the most viewership (or maybe Christmas).
Just remember, you can always change the channel. Or, I recommend just turning the TV off.

OK. I'll try to reconsider my position. Please explain to me why Smallville is conservative.

Yes Buffy sucks, but 24 is awesome. I don't think there is any left wing conspiracy happening, it's just a t.v. show and a good one at that. Jack Bauer rocks, liscense to kill and all that $hit! 100% Testosterone shoot'em up and killer blood & guts stuff as my wife would say.

There is a huge business opportunity mentioned in this article. At least half of America (conservatives) being insulted daily on TV and they have no CHOICES! The first channel that puts on something decent that conservatives could watch will absolutely clean up!
To: Gopher Broke
In other words it deals with the reality of the way most families live, just one reason why it appeals to so many people.
To: EveningStar
Just more Hollywood neo-Marxism I take it you're referring to Lionel Luthor, who was an evil businessman in the comics long before the tv show.

Lex?

I loved 24, at least the second season (I never watched the first season). I was impressed that the show had the guts to actually make the bad guys Arab terrorists. It's starting to go to hell now, though. The whole "oil conspiracy" crap has really turned me off.

Lex has been given some humanity and compassion and isn't portrayed as EVIL (yet). Lionel, otoh, has been a comic book evil businessman since the beginning.
To: HELLRAISER II
Agree, 24 IS awesome. Also the story line changes every 15 minutes. Who knows how it will end up. They seem to write it on the fly in a way as to confound the audiences.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly. Fox news is good. Fox entertainment is bad.
To: FlJoePa
Well, that is the real point. I believe that a genuinely conservative show would, so long as it was well done, easily jump to the top of the ratings.
If someone was real smart they might counter-program such a show against the West Wing.
To: EveningStar
Businessmen are represented as evil. Just more Hollywood neo-MarxismAre you kidding me?!? The show gave Lex at least half a heart. Compared to the original comic books, Lex is actually a nice guy!! As for his father, that man was evil long before someone in Hollywood picked up the series
