Ortleb makes a lot of sense.Even a stopped 12-hr clock is right twice a day.
Ortleb would seem to be tahking this opportuinity to grind one of his favorite axes - gripes against the CDC for the purpose of furthering, later on, his own favorite causes against the CDC.
AND a LOT of people here are FR are happy to pile right on top of that sentiment - sight unseen as to what the CDC is *actually* doing behind the scene ...

Either we're fabulously lucky, or the US is doing an admirable job in protecting the population. Perhaps it's a little of both.
There's no panic here (except among shareholders of airlines), and we haven't had any deaths yet. We certainly have raised the awareness of people, and health professionals are taking the threat seriously. If you want fast and good attention, announce at the Emergency Room that you think you have SARS.
I'm not worried how the US is handling this. I am worried how the rest of the world is, because that will ultimately affect us.

I do wish I could trust the government to put health ahead of corporate profit, though. Don't count on it.

We certainly have raised the awareness of people, This is key AND paramount to a solution - both on our shores and, ideally, on foreign shores.
Mankind has really *little* else to work with - we have only our minds and not the multitude of immune sysyem responses that the animal kingdom has*.
* The animal kingdom also has the benefit of adapting to local contagion moreso than we 'mobile' humans. To the nitpickers: Exceptions to this 'rule' abound - this is but a quick easy generalization from which to 'get started' on the subject of immune system adaptation in the anaimal kingdom ...

Ortleb would seem to be tahking this opportuinity to grind one of his favorite axes - gripes against the CDC for the purpose of furthering, later on, his own favorite causes against the CDC. I don't know anything about Ortleb other than what was posted on THIS thread. Based on your comments, however, it sounds like I would disagree with a lot of his stuff.
His comment about needing to correctly identify the SARS virus is correct, however. A lot of potential explanations exist for why Canada has not found the new coronavirus in so many of their SARS patients, but that does not change the importance of the matter.

Just by posting this on FR, you're getting the attention of the media. Look forward to see one of those red/blue type maps. Btw, thanks for the CDC post. You did good!

Thanks for posting the song. I was surprised that it worked at all with a dial-up connection.
