NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, MAY 1, 2003

Congress has called for a national day of gratitude, fasting and prayer. The sponsoring organizations have decided to incorporate the congressionally mandated themes into the National Day of Prayer.

You are invited to participate by joining with millions of Americans in praying the following prayer for America at 12:00 pm EDT, Thursday, May 1, 2003.

The prayer was written by PPT honorary committee member Luis Palau, President and Founder, Luis Palau Evangelistic Association.

Prayer for the Nation

"Our Father and our God, we thank You for the many blessings You have poured out on America and we praise You for Your mercy. You have said: 'Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.' We confess, O Lord, our national and personal sins. We repent and ask forgiveness for all actions that dishonor You.

O God, bless our President and other leaders. Provide them with wisdom and move them to honor You. Deliver this great nation from all our enemies as we recommit ourselves to trust, serve and obey Your commands. We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen."

--Dr. Luis Palau, President and Founder, Luis Palau Evangelistic Association and member of The Presidential Prayer Team Honorary Committee

Amen to your prayer. I trust that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will protect and guide our great President George W. Bush. May our Lord also guide and protect our great nation. Jesus, we ask for forgiveness and pray that you cover America with your Holy Spirit and that many will come to your feet in repentance and praise.

I lift our men and women in the military unto your throne and I ask a special blanket of favor, grace, mercy and protection for all of them. They are doing a great but dangerous job all over this earth that you created and I pray that you, Jesus, will look after them. Lord, thank you for listening.

Not that it isn't a good idea to encourage people to pray, but on May Day?

Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our history, including President Lincoln's proclamation of a day of "humiliation, fasting, and prayer" in 1863. I think our history of national prayer pre-dates the May Day nonsense, which is most often traced to 1886 beginnings.

I don't dispute the national day of prayer. I do question setting the date on a major pagan holiday that has existed for since the Middle Ages.

FYI, the National Day of Prayer is held the first Thursday in May every year.

Christmas was celebrated on a pagan holiday to counter that holiday with a Christian Holiday. Easter is actually a celebration of the goddess Astarte of Babylonian times. That's why many Christians don't use the term Easter anymore but "Happy Resurrection Day" to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus The Messiah, God's Sacirificial Pesach Lamb for the sin of mankind. So celebrating Christian events on pagan holidays started long, long time ago.
By the way, many Christian scholars believe that Dec 25th was not the day Jesus was born, but rather conceived, and He was born on the Jewish Holiday of Succoth, known in English as "The Feast Of Tabernacles".

I knew that stuff when I posted it. You should see all the pagan and demonic architectural symbology in the Vatican. It's incredible.

Good morning to all. Now to get back on track...

A National Day of Prayer Bump to this thread.

As thousands gather in churches and stadiums (10,000expected in Phoenix alone) to hold up our nation, its leaders, and this year, our troops, in prayer, let's join with them and pray for God's gracious guidance, protection, and wisdom for the tasks that lie before us.
