They Don't Get It, Do They?

They Don't Get It, Do They?

Recent events in the news remind me of the Tom Hank's movie "BIG". You know, the one where the little boy is magically transformed into an adult and thrust into the real world? In one scene, he states several times: "I don't get it" during a sales meeting. Like the immature little boy trapped in a grown-ups' world, people who seem to be grown-ups and not naive little boys have treated us to similar occurrences on several fronts.

First, let's begin with the recent criticisms lobbed by Senator Byrd towards President Bush and his wonderful tribute to our armed forces aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. What is up with that? Democrats are whining that this was a staged political event. Of course it was! It was not only a fitting tribute to our troops by a political figure, but a powerful message sent to the rest of the world community. Besides, President Bush has earned the right to gloat a little, to enjoy the moment. He has proven to entire world that America is the lone superpower and we will no longer feel guilty about that. His role is to promote America; he's our figurehead, the leader of our government. I find it ironic that Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman is calling for an investigation to find out how much this cost taxpayers. I don't care how much it cost. How much will his investigation cost taxpayers? When will the Democrats realize that we love President Bush and their attacks on his character and leadership only confirm that he's our man? Why are Democrats so insistent on blocking his proposed tax cuts? Maybe it's because the economy is all they have to attack him on, and thus, any improvement would spell further disaster for the Democrats in 2004. They don't get it, do they?

On another note, America-bashers like Peter Jennings of ABC would have us believe that the greatest tragedy of Operation Iraqi Freedom was the looting of the National Museum. Somehow, this was America's fault. General consensus on the left was that we should have diverted manpower from the war effort to safeguard the museum from Iraqi looters! Well, once again, they were proven wrong as recent reports indicate that many of these items have been returned or were actually stored for safekeeping. Would it have been so hard for them to focus on something positive? Maybe something like the overwhelming success of this military campaign, expressing thanks that this was not another Vietnam, as they had so gleefully predicted? Chalk up another miss for the naysayers. They criticized the war and now they are criticizing the peace. They don't get it, do they?

Let's examine the case surrounding our search for those WMDs. The left wanted to provide UN weapons inspectors all the time they needed, yet are unwilling to extend the same courtesy to President Bush. However, we're making progress. Just this week we discovered a mobile lab, one that looked exactly like the one Colin Powell described in great detail while making his case at the UN. Why didn't the UN weapons inspectors find this? Why didn't the Iraqis report it in their list provided to the UN? What could they possibly be trying to hide? Finding this mobile lab surely proves Saddam's intentions and also confirms that our intel was accurate. I believe the majority of Americans truly don't care if we ever find any WMD. The facts prove that Saddam was in league with terrorism, and that is all the justification I need. The Bush Doctrine is strongly supported by the American public. We finally have a leader with the courage and conviction to make America safe for Americans. The Democrats would prefer we surrender our autonomy to the UN. That won't happen, particularly after this last fiasco. They don't get it, do they?

Finally, let's talk about the anti-war celebrities. The other night I caught Mike Farrell popping his head out of his cave to appear on Hannity. The former MASH surgeon and political sage believes that President Bush has lied to the American public. I genuinely believe that Mike Farrell has eaten enough granola that somehow it has impacted his ability to discern between the fantasy of movies and reality! The man wears a mullet, for crying out loud. Enough said. He and his leftist friends will never get it. They still seem to think Castro's a heck of a guy! For Hollywood, the Presidency of George Bush is playing out like a Bruce Willis movie and it must be driving them nuts. Pass the popcorn, please.

For some crazy reason, God has placed these people amongst us as some sort of test. Maybe it's to test our character and virtue, to see how we react to the implausible. They seem to exist only to find the negative in life, to place blame for the world's ills on America. Maybe we should have replaced the UN weapons inspectors with some of these critics. If they would apply their tenacity in trying to dig up dirt on President Bush and America, surely they could locate the WMDs in the deserts of Iraq and elsewhere? The Democrats continue to prove that they have not learned from the elections of 2002. That's a good thing; let them keep digging their hole. It will only make winning 2004 that much easier. We'll have four more years of leadership under the man they so disparagingly describe as a cowboy, yet may soon be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. John Wayne would be so proud of this cowboy, riding in to save the day.

They just don't get it, do they? Most likely, they never will. Fortunately, most Americans do and for that, I am thankful.

The title of this piece says it all. Their minds (what's left of them) are made up. Dumbed down. Incurable with few exceptions.

"...Mike Farrell popping his head out of his cave to appear on Hannity...wears a mullet..."

He wears a mullet? I've come to distrust anyone with a pony-tail lately. And reruns of MASH used to be a favorite until Mike ruined it for me. Can't stand looking at his stupid mug anymore.
