Communism is not only not dead, it's alive and well and still very dangerous.
That's the sober warning Lee Edwards, a veteran conservative journalist, scholar and expert on communism, delivered to about 60 people Wednesday at a Duquesne Club lecture sponsored by St. Vincent College's Center for Economic and Policy Education.

Communism has a new face and new name today. It usually starts with "Green" and has targeted your private property.

But hardline communist governments still rule with brutal force in China, North Korea and Cuba.. Berkely, San Francisco, Oregon, Minneapolis, Madison, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia...

It's very transparent: The Communists have taken over the Democrat Party by pretending to be Socialists hiding behind the Liberal label.

Where are the books? Here's one I'm just now finishing - it's a long, horrifying read and I suspect that many who did not live through this have little idea of the magnitude and consistency of the evil - there is no other word for it - involved in this ideology.
The Black Book of Communism.
Highly recommended - it' well-footnoted for the skeptical.

you may want to check out one called "The Gulag Archipelago"
look for the abridged version...about 300 pages, down from several thousand...It really shows the inner workings of Stalin's terror regime...makes Hitler look like a boy scout.

A useful web site with excellent statistics.
20TH CENTURY DEMOCIDE
The detail spreadsheet here is interesting for backup when lefties start spouting about the "horrible" regimes we supported. The Shah and Pinochet were pikers.

My version of
The Gulag Archipeligo is the abridged version. I was reading yet another in this vein, (which, BTW, was recommended by another FReeper) by Martin Amis, named
Koba the Dread: Laughter and the Twenty Million, also highly recommended, and Amis says the unabridged is indispensible. Dang it - another expensive set of bricks for the shelf...
