Ithaca College Commencement: Ben & Jerry's co-founder causes a stir

ITHACA -- Ithaca College's 108th Commencement Exercise saw degrees conferred on 1,350 graduates. One of the commencement speakers, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream co-founder Ben Cohen, was cheered and also booed when he criticized national spending priorities and the war in Iraq during his address to the graduates.

How embarrassing for Ithaca College. For a newly graduated person to shame her 4 years of education and her school in front of the whole world by saying something so ignorant about the U.S. economy is tragic.

Trust me. Ithaca College wears this comment like a badge of honor.

Their faculty is overwhelmingly liberal. In fact, the chair of their politics department basically said we "deserved" September 11 and they proudly published her essay about in the alumni magazine.

Members of the administration were also involved in funding an illegal trip by a faculty member to Iraq.

Not only won't they be embarrased, they'll probably name her a "distinguished alumni" someday.

We've discussed the Ithaca "Alternative Community School" before at FR.

Despite its name, its a taxpayer funded school. It lets students graduate in majors like basket weaving and political activism, and invited convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal to be its graduation speaker .

PHOOEY ON THEM ALL. Daughter #1 just received her master's degree in Urban Planning and Historic Preservation at UVA yesterday. A good conservative she has a job in the DC area next year, making a good salary and we are proud as punch with her. Let all these whiners and clymers go p*ss up a rope,

They can ask Ben & Jerry if they could help make their famous Rainforest Crunch Ice Cream. After all its never out of demand, now is it? Apparently four years of college haven't spurred Ithaca's graduates to ask a pair of wealthy liberals if its time for them to go into the ice cream business. Somehow that would have been an appropriate theme for the City Of The Empire Strikes Back! You know, an appreciation for self reliance and all. Sitting around waiting for President Bush to depart office strikes me as a loser idea.

At least if she had gotten a Business degree with a Spanish minor she could be the manager of a Taco Bell!

Sounds like Ayana Shabazz would be a perfect replacement for Jayson Blair at the the NY Slimes. She is a creative liar, a whining black muslim and an affirmative action loser with an instant unemployment degree.

With about 30 million legal Hispanics who speak Spanish naturally and another 12 million illegal Hispanic aliens, she is about 40 million people behind the Spanish speaking curve.

However, she should be a real talent grab for the Ny Slimes to follow in the tradition set by Jayson Blair.

Lucas Shapiro, an Ithaca resident who graduated from Ithaca's Alternative Community School, said he's lucky. He has a job lined up in New York City as the national youth organizer for the Democratic Socialists of America.
