An interesting quote from the url from post #44:

http://englishwww.humnet.ucla.edu/Individuals/turbo4/orwell_text.html

A quote from George Orwell:

In Moulmein, in Lower Burma, I was hated by large numbers of people--the only time in my life that I have been important enough for this to happen to me. I was sub-divisional police officer of the town, and in an aimless, petty kind of way anti-European feeling was very bitter. No one had the guts to raise a riot, but if a European woman went through the bazaars alone somebody would probably spit betel juice over her dress. As a police officer I was an obvious target and was baited whenever it seemed safe to do so. When a nimble Burman tripped me up on the football field and the referee (another Burman) looked the other way, the crowd yelled with hideous laughter. This happened more than once. In the end the sneering yellow faces of young men that met me everywhere, the insults hooted after me when I was at a safe distance, got badly on my nerves. The young Buddhist priests were the worst of all. There were several thousands of them in the town and none of them seemed to have anything to do except stand on street corners and jeer at Europeans.

I thought that Buddhist priests were supposed to be the epitomy of serenity and above-it-all-ness. My,my...

I shot my friend's L.A.R. Grizzley and it felt like shooting magnum shells out of a 12 gauge.

The worst recoil I had was from my 1886 and some reloads that I bought just for the brass. I have no idea what this guy's recipe was but I know now why he sold them. I won't make that mistake again. At least the rifle escaped without any damage. I probably would have been fine but it just caught me unawares.

Ahhh, the smell of racism.

There's nothing else quite like it.

I wouldn't know.

But several thousand priests in a town would be a lot, wouldn't it? So maybe they were wannabe priests or something.

Or maybe they just had stupified looks on their faces from all the meditation, and Orwell took it personal.

Just making an observation. With the way the barrel is blown. But then the stock is also blown off pretty good.

Never have reloaded rifle rounds. Used to do shotgun and pistol though. Always followed the book. And always doubled checked the powder charge. 8`!)

BTW: A .375 H&H is the biggest thing I've ever shot. Think I'll stick with my Garand's and 03A3's.

Someone told me that there is no way you can have too many reloading books and I believe that. Books that are from the powder companies coupled with the books from the Bullet companies make good companions.

Dillon makes the best reloading press available. It always surprises me when a good shooter tells me he doesn't own one.

I'm an RCBS fan, but I just won't do progressives.

I like being cautious and doing things one at a time. Yea it takes a bit longer, but I'm reasonably certain that nothings going to blow up in my face.

The was an outdoor store here in town in the early 80's that was having a sale. The owner had died in a climbing accident and all the stuff was being sold off.

My brothers and I bought our reloader and the store threw in bags of shot, empty's, primers, books, etc, etc.

We never bought anymore stuff for a couple of years, we had so much.

I found out a progessive was safer for me. I have one Dillon set up for rifles and another one for pistols.

I haven't had to readjust my dies in years and I just take it very slow. The BS about how fast they are isn't the point for me. I like the idea that everything has been set and rechecked twice before I start out. I also use ball powders for my rifles so that problem is resolved.

Every season I tear down the press completely and give it a good scrubbing and grease. I know a guy who broke two bell cranks using heavy calibers and they were both replaced. I wore mine out and broke a couple of small odds and ends. Everything is guaranteed.

One thing that bothered me is Dillon stopped selling the little counters to see how many rounds were loaded. I liked having it so I could do my preventive maintenance from the numbers. I also liked the idea that my son and I used so many X amount of .45 rounds in a twelve month period.

I also don't believe in keeping precision dies in a garage or workshop. I destroyed some dies because I had them near a grinder and the dust accumulated. My reloading bench is right behind me on the other side of the room.

The best deal like that I had every heard was from a friend who bought something from a gunshop that was nailed by the ATF. Every time someone bought a gun, the owner would add a 9MM to the yellow sheet and sell the gun to the bad guys.

The deal was, my friend attended the auction and he bought a file cabinet with dozens of small drawers like the filing cards at the library. He paid very little for the filing cabinet and was very happy. Then he brought it home and looked inside.

That's where the owner filed away all the pistol magazines for sale. All pre-ban.

Nope, no guns. Just the stuff to make the shot shells. We were making shells for ourselves and friends.

Hope to get back into reloading someday. Been looking at the Dillon's. They look good. Don't do shotgun anymore. Want to do some for my -06's.

I can remember climbing a few fences to take a short cut across an "empty" pasture a few times, only to hear the snorting of the very upset bull. Usually they wait until you are well away from the fence. I have also been chased by feral bulls on an uninhabited Pacific island, but that's another story.
