CAIR: "Cal Thomas Echoes Nazi Propaganda" (instructs followers to disseminate reply to column)
CAIR Email (Islam-Infonet List) ^ | 22 May 03 | CAIR

Posted on 05/23/2003 11:07:21 PM PDT by Stultis

Immediately following this introductory paragraph is the relevant portion of an email received (5/22/03) from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Their emails contain news clippings and links, commentary, press releases and/or "action items". This one had many news stories on other topics, but carried the subject line, "CAIR-NET: Cal Thomas Echoes Nazi Propaganda":

IMPORTANT NOTE: Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas recently published a commentary portraying Muslims as "enemies" within America's border and smearing any Islamic group that promotes political activism and participation. If you see this editorial in your local newspaper (his column is published in hundreds of papers), please submit the reply below on CAIR's behalf, or use the talking points to write your own response. Just go to the newspapers website and search for the editorial department, "feedback" or letters to the editor. Give CAIR's contact information to the newspaper. Please let us know which newspaper receive the response. E-mail:

CAL THOMAS ECHOES NAZI PROPAGANDA
WORD COUNT: 447

By Ibrahim Hooper

Cal Thomas' latest commentary would have been more at home in the Nazi-era publication Der Sturmer than in a respectable American newspaper.

Thomas, echoing 1930s Nazi propaganda against the Jewish community in Germany, warned of the "dangers" posed by increased Muslim political participation in North America. Thomas wrote: "You don't have to be paranoid to fear where this can lead in Canada and in the United States - where immigration and births are dramatically increasing the Muslim population…If politicians succumb to pressure from Muslim activist groups and equate Islam with the religious and political heritage of this country, we will know that an important beachhead has been attained by our enemies."

He also decried the fact that Muslims "are organizing voter-registration drives and political consciousness-raising events," as if these otherwise praiseworthy efforts are made nefarious solely by Islamic involvement.

This is the same conservative pundit who in a past column said Muslims "take their faith in a false god more seriously than we take our faith in the true one." He also called for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians when he wrote: "Israel should declare its intention to transfer large numbers of its Palestinian residents to Arab nations...Eviction is a better avenue to stability."

Thomas not only attempts to disenfranchise American Muslims and label them as "enemies" of this country, he smears our organization by recycling a bogus quote falsely attributed to CAIR's board chairman saying Islam must dominate other faiths and that the Quran "should be the highest authority in America."

The alleged statement about Islam and the Quran, which is in contradiction to CAIR's nine-year history of mainstream civil rights and political advocacy, was not in fact a quote. It was a paraphrase of remarks that were either reported inaccurately or wrongly attributed by a reporter at a small California newspaper. CAIR is seeking a retraction from that newspaper.

Thomas also quotes Daniel Pipes as saying CAIR is on the "wrong side in the war on terrorism." Pipes is another right-wing Islamophobe who has repeatedly refused to condemn the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and who warned of the "true dangers" posed by "the presence, and increased stature, and affluence, and enfranchisement of American Muslims." Birds of a feather…

If anyone wishes to learn what CAIR and the American Muslim community really stand for, they should visit the web site for our "Islam in America" ad campaign at www.americanmuslims.info. In those ads, ordinary American Muslims discuss their views on topics such as family values and ethnic diversity, and express their condemnation of religiously-motivated terrorism.

The United States is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic society. That is the American heritage Thomas seems determined to reject.

- END -

Ibrahim Hooper is communications director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Washington-based Islamic civil rights and advocacy group.

PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS HAVE THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE

In this country, founded on the principles of religious freedom and separation of church and state, people of all faiths have the right to participate in politics. Yet Cal Thomas, in his May 20 column, decries the fact that "Muslims, by their own admission, are organizing voter-registration drives and political consciousness-raising events."

He refers to Muslims throughout his column as "our enemies."

Muslims are not our enemies. Terrorist groups that promote violence and hatred, some of which claim to operate under the banner of Islam, are our enemies. But they comprise a tiny percentage of Muslims worldwide.

Mr. Thomas criticizes specifically the political activities of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Looking up CAIR's web site for myself (www.cair-net.org), I see a peaceful, ecumenical organization. Check out their statement on the terrorist acts of Sept. 11: The group expresses grief for the victims and their families, praises the heroes of the rescue effort and states that "American Muslims unequivocally condemn these vicious and cowardly acts of terrorism."

In fact, Muslim friends of mine, some born here, others from such diverse countries as Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt and Lebanon, are among the kindest, fairest and most peace-loving people I know.

Mr. Thomas laments that we non-Muslims "fear being labeled bigots if we oppose Muslims' political activities. Clearly Mr. Thomas doesn't fear that label; he wears his bigotry on his sleeve.

Boy, the enemy hates it when someone on our side tells the truth and shines the light on the nest of cockroaches, don't they?

If Islam obtains political power in the United States, our Democracy is done for. It is over. If they ever obtain control of our government or our military, there will be no way to resist - and they know it.

They are flooding into our country and we are doing nothing to stem the tide. This is all part of a very well organized long term plan by the Islamofascists to see Islam take over this nation.

Wait and see.

Having just read Cal's article, I agree with him 100%. If this group has their way, we will cease to be a sovereign nation, and will become an Islamic "holy" land. We won't allow that to happen.

The review itself is suspenseful. Here is some info on it from Amazon.com.

BTW, apparently to avoid Islamic attacks, the publisher has authorized the distribution of this book only to customers within the United States.

Aided and abetted by almost every politician from D.C. to the State Houses.

The Arabs did fight against the Ottoman Turks in WWI. They were fighting for freedom from the Ottomans. Compared to the Bedu tribesmen, of course, the Ottomans were civilised.

The guy who wrote this letter, Ib Hooper of CAIR, has blood on his own hands. After 9/11 the organisation, which has always supported and defended suicide terrorists, put a link on their website which invited people to contribute to 9/11 victims. However... the money actually went to the Holy Land Foundation, a Hamas front, and was used to finance terrorist attacks in Israel.

CAIR itself is a terrorist front, pure and simple. I am assuming that the only reason it hasn't been shuttered (as Holy Land was) and its officers made to answer charges, is that the responsible authorities have it wired like a pinball machine and are using it to roll up Hooper's friends in Al-Qaeda.

This writer was on 60 Minutes, I believe, within the last month. She seemed credible and knowledgeable. Thanks for reminding me; I will obtain her book and read it.

Thanks for the ping. As usual, rather than responding to the points Mr. Thomas makes, Hooper responds with rabble-rousing. An ideologist of a totalitarian movement funded with foreign money.

Your points are well taken. As it happens, we were in the middle of extensive background research into the history of the actual funding and formation of these organizations. Your suggestions are timely indeed because a next step will be a review of the punditry as it relates to the actual history.

The amount of money that has been funnelled into these organizations such as CAIR to divert attention from the attack on our basic legal foundations by accusations of discrimination against Muslims is extremely large. And it is all enabled by our government and our oil companies refusing to tackle the truth of the matter.

In particular, for example, many old hands in the oil business still insist that Wahhabi style Islamic hate theology is the equivalent of U.S. Evangelicalism. The most startling part is that when the members of the Wahhabi lobby appear on cable they are not challenged on their lack of belief in the disestablishment principle and their desire to impose Shar'ia law on the U.S.

Thank you for your post. We have not engaged in punditry on these points pending the completion of these researches.

In the media, much is made of the "fact" that Arab-Americans voted predominately Republican in the last election. Whether this is true or just eyewash, I don't know.

Be that as it may, you can bet the nation-wide Muslim community will not be voting Republican next time around.

Now, CAIR is organizing cadres to insure more Muslims get elected to public office, local, state and federal.

Witness Paris, where the Muslims were just allowed to have their own "advisory council" which in effect governs the areas in Paris where no outsiders dare enter, not even the police.

I would really love to say that Muslims in this country want to assimilate into the melting pot. However, this is not reality, as most of them remain insular, totally ethnic and prefer religious law over civil law. If Muslim piece-by-piece domination can happen in gay Paree and elsewhere, it can happen in Dearborn or Chicago, you can bet on it.

In WWI, they backed the wrong side.

That's dead wrong. The Arabs were pro-British. The Saudis would not be where they are today if they did not support the British against the Ottomans.

The article states in part: "Thomas, echoing 1930s Nazi propaganda against the Jewish community in Germany, warned of the "dangers" posed by increased Muslim political participation "

I can guarantee that the Jews never published anything saying that they had to ensure the end of the German people in favor of Judaism, nor did they successfully attempt to kill thousands of German non-military citizens. The Jews did not pepetrate attack after attack after attack on German women and children.

The use of the "Nazi" label for anyone who tells the truth diminshes the true evil of that regime. On the other hand, Evil now wears a new name and that name is Islam.

Some will dismiss as paranoid her claim that there is a Saudi-funded movement to gain "Muslim world domination," yet readers will follow along in fearful fascination as she slowly assembles the puzzle pieces of a complex, interlocking group of organizations and traces their links to terrorist groups and, ultimately, to a "Saudi connection."

From #56. Looks like a worthwhile read.
