What a GREAT event for southern California FReepers who support our God-given right to keep and bear arms - protected by the Second Amendment!
And, this is an EXTRAORDINARY opportunity for 2A newbies (like ME! - who have not fired a weapon in a long, LONG time, and do not currently OWN a gun) - to shoot some "primo" merchandise provided by the manufacturers, with professional supervision, in a SAFE environment.
What a DEAL!
Plus, all that you PAY, beyond the small admittance fee, is for the ammunition that you use.
(And, they will have Hummer H1's and H2's to test drive, too.)

Great meeting you today. Sorry we couldn't make the VFW thing. And thanks for supporting our current military and veterans.

I'm there, dude.

Seriously, though, it's too bad you can't bring your own stuff (although I understand the reason why). I'd like to comparison shop with what I've already got.

Of course, this will end up costing me money I don't really have.

Will they have booths for venders? I'm asking because a friend travels the country as a gunfitter for professional and recreational sport shooters.

Thanks for flagging me, Ron, I can't make this though it sounds like fun. I sent a note to my brother that lives up there, he has been saying he would like to sign up with NRA, this would be his chance.

To A Navy Vet, a belated Memorial Day thanks for your military service and service to "the conservative cause". We met at a demo in front of Rep. Bono's office in Palm Springs a few years ago. I was the old guy with the big aluminum sign.

To all vets, we love you and don't say it often enough.

Thanks for the ping.

I LOVE this event, given the huge number of vendors present, you can try out just about any current production rifle or pistol on the planet.

I think I'll spend some time out front collecting Davis recall signatures for good measure.

I'll keep an eye out for you -- FReepmail if you know in advance which day you'll be there and I'll press you into service with the petition!

Of course, this will end up costing me money I don't really have.

Now that's the truth. You should avoid the HK booth, and be certain you don't try the P7, else you'll soon be quite a few dollars lighter in the wallet.

Oh, and be extra double certain to avoid the Springfield booth and the M1A, which is even more dangerous to your bank balance.

The M1A? They're going to have a battle tank there?

I just want to try driving a H1 and H2. I'm curious as to how much more "wimpy" the much more practical H2 is. I have a good friend whose dream car is the H1.

I can take it or leave it, personally - I like straight-out, high-speed, good handling luxury cars like my 420SEL - but I've been curious about Hummers for a long time, so this is my chance :-).

I still want to see Ted Hayes shoot. Pity he told us he would chicken out; perhaps we can get him to change his mind?

About how much should I budget for this event for a decent chance at firing?

At least video tape is cheap - do you think it would be a problem to get video of the event?

Hi

Yep, the M1A tank will be there for test drives and firing of the 120 mm cannon--that is why absalom01 said it would be really dangerous to your bank account--those things cost $3million and once you try one, you gotta have it! [NOT! Warning! Absurdity Alert!]

Seriously, the Springfield M1A is a great design and it would be banned under the expanded "Assault Weapon" ban that Senators Feinstein and Schumer are trying to pass--so get yours before they become illegal to buy. And work against those bills so it will never come to that!!!

As for the amount of money: I usually bring $30 in one dollar bills for ammo, because I will spend the whole day there and use many different models. The entry fee is mentioned in RonDog's initial post (see free admission for women on FRI. and accompanied kids under 14 all days). The ammo fees are generally in the following range: $1 pays for 5 rounds of .22 rimfire or 2-3 rounds of common centerfire calibers like 9mm or .30-06 or 12 gauge, with higher prices for large or rare calibers (~$3 per round of .50 BMG or .460 Weatherby).

This Sports Fair is your best opportunity to try the large, unusual, or rare calibers that none of your friends own and you can't rent at your local range. For example: Rifles in .50 BMG, .460, .458, .416, .338 Magnums. Pistols in .454 Casull, .480 Ruger, .44 Magnum, .475 Linebaugh. Shotguns in 12 gauge 3.5 inch Magnum.

If you were trying to decide to buy either Brand A or Brnad B or Brand C in a particular caliber, this is the perfect chance to use all of them on the same day so you can compare their ergonomics, methods of operation, and subjective aiming and recoil-handling qualities.

I'll be there on Saturday. If anyone wants advice or info, let me know.

Hi, again!

I forgot to address your other question: that if you want to find out about video or photography at the event, check with the proprietor, Raahauge Enterprises. Many firearms businesses are cautious about video and film because they have been burned so many times by the media.

Their URL is:

Their e-mail is:

Their phone number is:

Thank you.

That was a fun day in PS. It was in support of the Judgment Day rallies across the country and in DC. That was the first web-based multi-city event run simultaneously. You're part of history. Thanks for your support of our Armed Services. Hope to see you again sometime. We get out to PS about twice a year.
