A fetus in its 24th week of development has been aborted by doctors who said the life of the mother - a retarded, deaf and seizure-prone rape victim - would be threatened if the baby was carried to full term, an attorney said Friday. The abortion and tubal ligation to prevent future pregnancies were performed late Thursday at Jackson Memorial Hospital, said Lance Block, who represents the disabled woman's mother. Miami-Dade police took DNA samples from the fetus in an effort to identify the father, whom officials believe raped the 28-year-old woman, he said. The victim is "doing well" despite the tragedy she has been a part of, he said. In a statement released Thursday by Miami-Dade Circuit Court, the judge who oversaw the case, Arthur Rothenberg, said the disabled woman's mother strongly objected to any other solutions. She "did not want her daughter to be subjected to any more of an invasive procedure than was absolutely necessary to terminate the pregnancy and for a tubal ligation," Rothenberg said.

FWIW I've always thought it was probably the pro-death crowd that was making adoption so difficult. If they can render it nearly impossible for adoption, no demand...no demand...no babies needed...therefore more abortions. IMHO.

Oh it is. In Ann arbor, (which is WAY to close to where I live) life is very cheap. Pro-abortion, anti-death penalty. Go figure.

I don't think they are doing it because they have thought it out the way you describe, I think it is just another symptom of liberal looniness.

Interesting too, how they want to regulate adoption to prevent "disabled" people from adopting, yet will keep the Foster Home system with all it's problems amd corruption going.

I think it has to do with keeping beureaucrats fat.

I completely agree with your entire post. How many children are in foster homes when they could be adopted out to loving, childless families? How many children are adopted by those families when given up by their birth mothers, only to have the mother come back and ask for the child when she is done "living her life" the way she wanted to - without strings or responsibilities? It's a tragedy.

Yeah, I've read quite a few of them myself. But I think that one contains some particularly great lines.

The point I was trying to make was that the baby would not have been a burden on the biological mother who is incapable of caring for it or on the grandmother who insisted on the abortion.
There would have been no "selling". On the contrary, a preemie would have been an extra expensive undertaking by any adoptive parents. All children are expensive to raise, even the healthy ones. Who said anything about a highest bidder. What amazing illogic and complete blindness.
Adoption is a very good solution for unwanted pregnancies and has been for centuries.
Curious that you used a biblical description of hell, "gnashing of teeth".

The woman didnt ask for this baby, it was the result of an assault on her person. Disagree with the mother's understanding of reality, if you like, but demonizing her for putting her daughter's life first is really beyond the pale, IMO.

She had her 6 month old grandchild legally murdered. The child could have been delivered and adopted.

We are a society of barbarians.

Liberty Counsel's Press Release

BABY DOE MAY BE GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

After Judge Arthur Rothenberg late Wednesday night decided to have physcians at Jackson Memorial Hospital perform a live birth using a C-section on ZH, we were very happy. The hysterotomy abortion that was scheduled for 7:30 am on Thursday was cancelled. However, Judge Rothenberg again changed his mind and then directed that an abortion be conducted.

According to today's Miami-Herald, Baby Doe was aborted last evening. Baby Doe's short life of 24 weeks has impacted our staff along with countless people around the world (a French media outlet has been covering this story). The death of Baby Doe highlights the tragedy of abortion. Here we have a case where the OB/GYN physicians specializing in high risk pregnancy stated that the baby was developing normally and there was no reason to terminate the pregnancy. But, when you place these facts in the context of a "disposable" baby mentality and a non-adversarial guardianship proceeding (where the court's decision waffles based on the most recent ex parte contact), the end result is that the most innocent victim, Baby Doe, comes out the loser. Here the intended procedure for the abortion was an abdominal hysterotomy (the same in this case as a C-section). Baby Doe at 24 weeks had a chance at life. Give Baby Doe one more week in the womb and the percentage of survival rapidlly increases. Yet, instead of givng Baby Doe a chance, the same abdominal incision is made. The only difference is that Baby Doe has no chance. Instead, Baby Doe must first be killed prior to the abortion. I don't understand a system or a country that calls this "choice."

I pray that the experience of Baby Doe will re-kindle the abortion debate in America. I applaud all those who fight every day on the front lines for the unborn children. When you enter the battle over human life and sexuality, you know immediately you've walked right into the vortext of a spiritual war. The best way we can remember Baby Doe is to be the voice of this precious child, advocating life and calling a halt to the meaningless slaughter of so many young, helpless, people.

Please see post #89.

Also in the original article on this case, the doctors cancelled a scheduled abortion because the woman was in no immediate danger, and the baby was developing normally. They could not deliver the baby at the time without consent, and went back to the Judge with their findings. The Judge ordered the abortion, with the mother agreeing. (from original article).

HERE is a question for the debate: " Who here would have opened their home , loved, provided for, and taken responsibility for that child that raped woman would have had?"

You.

Yes, it is, from start to finish

Again, I think the main problem is that some people are making careers of keeping the problem going.

The foster-care thing REALLY makes me mad. Too many unsuitable folks taking in children for their checks, ( and often abusing the kids or neglecting them!) And too many Child-Welfare people who are incompetant .

For some reason Florida seems to have more than it's share of problems along these lines. Not sure why that is.

I gotta motor and go pick up Caitlin. Nice talking to you!

Oh yeah; pregnancy is known to be so tough on a mother's brain tissues.

Are you a doctor??? If not I would assume you have no clue what you are talking about.

"Just snippets. Did it say that her pregnancy was causing them?"

She was having brain seizures before the pregnancy and the pregnancy was either increasing them or was threatening to do so. Preganacy changes the body's balance of chemicals tremendously and has the potential to wreak havoc on the pregnant woman, including her brain. Having our second baby nearly killed my wife. We had him (never considered otherwise), but made sure he would be the last.
