Clinton's 'History' creating a hubbub
Crowds, record sales predicted for senator's White House memoir
06/09/2003
Associated Press
NEW YORK Wristbands, like those used for ticket-buyers at rock concerts, for the first 250 fans. A summer tour of major American cities.
Welcome to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2003 book tour.
The host of the tour's inaugural signing event for Mrs. Clinton's Living History, a Barnes & Noble in midtown Manhattan, is counting on heavy crowds Monday.
Store managers will distribute wristbands to the first 250 people seeking autographed copies of the senator's book, in order to make sure everyone in line has a copy.
Even before a single copy has been sold, the company's vice president of marketing, Bob Wietrack, predicted the memoir will be the chain's No. 1 nonfiction book of the year. Simon & Schuster, which agreed to pay Mrs. Clinton $8 million, has printed 1 million copies.
The bookstore visits are only part of the media blitz. Barbara Walters interviewed the senator for a Sunday segment on ABC, in which Mrs. Clinton said her marriage has "been tried and tested and we are at the point now that we're looking forward. ... I hope that we'll grow old together."
Time magazine is running excerpts from the book and an interview with Mrs. Clinton. In the interview, she is asked if she plans to run for president in 2008, and answers: "I have no intention of running for president."
A new ABC poll found that 53 percent of Americans don't want the former first lady to ever run for president. The same poll found Americans are still divided about her, with 44 percent expressing a favorable opinion and 48 percent viewing her unfavorably.

one hand."

we should have known this was going to be manipulated for the camerasManipulated for the cameras? It was overrun by the cameras. LOL!
I got before-and-after shots of the line with Doctor Raoul's camera (including the END of the line and itx proximity to the corner). Hope I didn't screw them up. You'll all feel better.

Agree. IIRC, Amazon already has well over 1 million PRE-orders already for HP. Figure in the other major booksellers, and you'll probably see at least half of the 8.5 mil copies go out just to fill the orders of those who have already paid sight unseen for the new book. Which reminds me, I need to order another one for my niece's birthday, which is about a week after the release date. Mine was bought and paid for a couple of months ago. It's been a long wait since the "Goblet of Fire".

Our local (Richmond, VA) radio talk show host said that one of the local book sellers reported that they had sold 3 copies today.
I like those numbers, but they could be better.

How many did they have in stock before they sold out? I not saying there aren't any Hillary-philes out there buying the book, I'm saying it won't sell out the first printing.

Just heard Newt Gingrich discuss a book he has written that has gotten NO publicity whatsoever..........it's #2 on the Amazon list............
June 13, at the same bookstore in Manhattan......Rudy Guiliani has a book signing........let's make this a big time success!!!
And then buy Ann Coulter's book.

Your response prompted me to call Borders to ask how many books did they have to sell today due to being sold out early, then asked if and when are they receiving another shipment...They started out with 200 today, sold out, have another 200 coming tomorrow, then another drop shipment on Wednesday....They also have orders that were phoned in to fill...
After that call to Borders, I called Barnes & Noble and asked about todays sales on her book...They told me they started out with 500 today, have none left, have another shipment coming tomorrow, then asked if I wanted a book so he'd put it aside when the shipment comes tomorrow..
The sad part was when I asked if he thought her book was going to be a best seller...he said yes..I asked him if he was democrat, he said no.

I don't know about your library, but the library I work at just got 6 copies of the book. I had to edit the book record this afternoon. My opinion of the book.
Bland and not very engrossing. I went through the book stopping to read a paragraph here and there, through the book. There was nothing in the writing to make me want to read the book. One interesting side note. When Hillary wrote about the JFK assasanation she did not write about any of the emotions she may have felt. She wrote that her favorite teacher first thought was that JFK was killed by the John Birch Society.

I must live in an alternate universe. I know NO ONE who would buy this book. The Hollywood types will probably buy 1000 copies each. I would venture a guess that if this book sells a million or more that only about 1% or less will READ IT!!!

Oh boy! A wristband! That will get me into the store to buy that slop. Wonder what is written on those wristbands. Slave of Hillary's?

Another comparision between Hillary's book and the new Harry Potter is that there will be thousands of people in bookstores at midnight. Not a handful.
If you need this much media, it's not a success.

Do you live in the blue zone? There is no other explanation that 1000 books are running out of two bookstores in 2 days. I don't know anybody who is interested in getting the book.
