Few years back a rancher in New Mexico saw a State Trooper getting his butt whupped by some bad guy and figured he'd watch from afar through a rifle scope on an 30-06 Bolt gun. When the guy got the officers sidearm the rancher punched the bad guy in the chest, center mass, from about 400 meters away. I'll see if I can find the noooooze clipping I kept. Texasproud may know about it as it happened near Road Forks New Mexico on I-10, mid or early 90's I believe.

God, just please help his wife and the rest of his family achieve some understanding and comfort, and one day be at peace with this poor officer's premature death.

God is holding him in his arms.

It just disgusts me that a police officer can be doing the most routine thing, and still meet up with a psycho like this, with no warning. This morning while on the interstate I happened to see a state trooper walking up to some vehicle, and thought briefly of the hazards of the "routine traffic stop".

In Louisiana, the killing of a peace officer during the performance of his duty is First Degree Murder. When I first learned this, I had to think about it. "Why are peace officers' lives considered more important than others'?" I thought at first. Then I realized: it's not that the law sees their lives as necessarily "more important". The bottom line is, anyone who does not even hesitate to go up against a peace officer (much less, an ordinary citizen) is more dangerous to society than is a mad dog. If this murder is proved, the killer must be executed for the benefit of all of us.
