In case you are interested the National Association of Students of Iran and Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI)are seperate organizations but they work together. Below is anarticle from back in 2000 that illustrates the point.

Iranian political prisoner demands better conditions

IRAN, TEHRAN. Manouchehr Mohammadi, leader of the National Association of Students of Iran, has been on a hunger strike for several days. He is being held in section 3 of Evin, infamous political prison in Tehran, and is protesting against his conditions. This was announced on November 19 by the Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran (SMCCDI).
According to the SMCCDI, Manouchehr Mohammadi, who suffers from kidney disease, has repeatedly requested of investigators at the Ministry of Information (which is also responsible for internal security) to provide medical assistance, but each time that has been denied. Manouchehr Mohammadi was arrested on July 18, 1999, five days after the crackdown on the student uprisings in Iran. On the next day, local television showed him making "confessions" to "plotting against Iran with foreign spies and Zionists". Last October, Mohammadi was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Human rights organizations reported that he was subjected to torture.

Good idea to write media outlets, let's hope they get this in front of the American people. It's very important and exciting. But, right now on Fox they are talking about nude summer camps, on Msnbc about interest rates, and on CNN about Harry Potter. The Iranians need our support and I'm sure Americans will sympathize if they could get the whole picture.

These are those desherited that were a day the backbone of the regime.....

I'm going to take a shot at this(as always I could be wrong)
I'm assuming they are talking about the disinherited. Those who have lost their land/business for one reason or another.
These are really the poorest of the poor, and the mullahs have used them for years to prop up their rule.

Food riot has been always dangerous to the well-being of any regime.

I hope the North Korean people are aware of this.

Things are not dying down. You have to remember, there is a 12 hour time difference between those in Iran and those of us on the US west coast. Our evening is their morning. So people go home after the protests and we slowly begin to hear the reports. By morning our time, we generally have our best news reports.
