"However, she was preserved from sin because Our Lord needed to be born of a pure vessel"
No ... she didn't need to be a "pure vessel" - except as a virgin; which she was. The reason is - the blood Jesus carried was not from his mother, it was from his Father, GOD. Mary loved GOD and she TRUSTED HIM. That's why she was chosen.

BTW, sorry, Mary was as sinful as you or I.
BTW, sorry, but the Catholic Church believes otherwise.
Then the Catholic "Church" is believes a HERESY, and a pagan one at that. There is no BIBLICAL reference for this. Nor is there HISTORICAL evidence for this pagan goddess worship in "Christian" circles until sometime in the late 2nd century. ODD, that such a PROFOUND statement is not found ANYWHERE in the Epistles. For all the goddess worship that is afforded to the godly woman Mariam ("Mary" was not Catholic - she was Jewish - from the line of David - and her name was MIRIAM), it seems quite odd that The Apostle Paul, the Apostle Peter, and Ya'akov Ha'Tzadik (James the half brother of Jesus) NEVER said, "Hail" to anyone but the ONLY redeember, Y'shua Ha'Maschiach (Jesus, the Messaih).
I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, snd there was no foreign god among you; therefore you are My witnesses.' Says the Lord, 'that I am God.'" Isaiah 43:11-12
No room for "Mary" there. I revere Miriam, the mother of Y'shua (Jesus), but I will not worship here or declare her sinless. Read the First Commandment again.

("There is dust enough on some of your Bibles to write 'damnation' with your fingers." C.H. Spurgeon)
Here is what Aquinas said (Summa Theologiae III:27:4):
"I answer that, God so prepares and endows those, whom He chooses for some particular office, that they are rendered capable of fulfilling it, according to 2 Cor. 3:6: '(Who) hath made us fit ministers of the New Testament.' Now the Blessed Virgin was chosen by God to be His Mother. Therefore there can be no doubt that God, by His grace, made her worthy of that office, according to the words spoken to her by the angel (Lk. 1:30,31): 'Thou hast found grace with God: behold thou shalt conceive,' etc. But she would not have been worthy to be the Mother of God, if she had ever sinned. First, because the honor of the parents reflects on the child, according to Prov. 17:6: 'The glory of children are their fathers': and consequently, on the other hand, the Mother's shame would have reflected on her Son. Secondly, because of the singular affinity between her and Christ, who took flesh from her: and it is written (2 Cor. 6:15): 'What concord hath Christ with Belial?' Thirdly, because of the singular manner in which the Son of God, who is the 'Divine Wisdom' (1 Cor. 1:24) dwelt in her, not only in her soul but in her womb. And it is written (Wis. 1:4): 'Wisdom will not enter into a malicious soul, nor dwell in a body subject to sins.'
"We must therefore confess simply that the Blessed Virgin committed no actual sin, neither mortal nor venial; so that what is written (Cant 4:7) is fulfilled: 'Thou art all fair, O my love, and there is not a spot in thee,' etc. "

If you had to watch your own son, whom you knew was the One who is Absolute Love, being tortured and mudrdered by those for whom He came to die and save, you might also be grief stricken.
To: CyberAnt
When Jesus died on the cross - Mary was grief stricken - if she had been informed about Jesus - she would have been thrilled - not grief stricken How could any human mother not be grief stricken, based on what she was witnessing in her son? Even with Mary "informed," I doubt "thrilled" would be an accurate description.

BTW, sorry, Mary was as sinful as you or I.Do you think God could have chosen any woman to be his Son's mother? If not, what criteria do you supposed he used? Did he whittle it down to maybe 20 or so women, then roll the dice? Or did His choice reflect a divine wisdom we are not privy to? What do you think?
To: Antoninus
Perhaps a better question is, where did Protestants lose these things
When we read this:
For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do. He said to them, 'All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.'" Mark 7:8-10
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. Colossians 2:8-9

>>well, my two infant children have not yet sinned, so I guess that scripture is in error or else you are misinterpreting it.... <<
Original Sin. It goes against the American grain because it is so Arthurian. Most people believe sins you didn't commit should not be held against you.
But that's what catholics say.

"If Jesus was God his mother had to be without sin"
Why ...?? Jesus had the blood of his father, GOD, not the blood of his mother. Mary was not sinless, she didn't need to be. All she needed to be was a virgin - which she was.

**Mary stepping on the head of snake...***
So what! It's a movie! If the script writer wanted her to grab the snake by the tail, sling it like a whip and pop off it's head he could do so!
Of course, that might stir up immages of snake handlers!
CHILL OUT!(Chill out is not pas'se t it?)

To remove Original Sin. But the infants were BORN INTO Sin. That's why you need the Baptism. THEN you are OK (until you think your first bad thought).
