Good work, hackers.

Now the site owners need to be prosecuted for wire fraud.

I just looked at the site and the owner is whining about HIS first amendment rights being violated. This guy intentionally assumes another man's identity for the purpose of fraud and deceit and cries about HIS rights. He attempts to subvert the second amendment and cries about violation of the first.

Normally I don't support hackers, but in this case I think the guy deserves a medal.

AskJohnLott.org was recently hacked by someone who values the Second Ammendment but not the First. Although we at AskJohnLott.org can understand why pro-gun extremists would be afraid of free speech, we believe that the entire Bill of Rights should be upheld.

Ask John Lott will be restored soon. In the meantime, the following sites provide information about the John Lott controversy:

Who Is Mary Rosh?

More Guns, More Crime

Tim Lambert's weblog

Thanks, and long live the Bill of Rights!

Vigalante justice at it's finest! The first amendment doesn't include lying.

I concur. This weasel complaining is kind of like Charles Manson complaining to police that someone murdered HIS pregnant girlfriend!

Isn't it funny how guys like this value one amendment of the Bill of Rights, but completely despise another? Nobody would complain about his opinion if he didn't hijack someone's identity to do it. Smacks of rank cowardice to me.

Normally I don't go to these sites because it really gets my blood boiling. But - I followed the link for "More Guns More Crime" and found the following:

From 1996 to 2000, Texas concealed handgun license holders were arrested for weapon-related offenses at a rate 81 percent higher than that of the general population of Texas, aged 21 and older.1

In the first six months of 1997, the weapon-related offense arrest rate among Texas concealed handgun license holders was more than twice as high as that of the general population of Texas aged 21 years and older.

Of course the source for this is the Brady bunch site. Does anyone have evidence to refute this?

I nornally wouldn't support hackers, but internet vigilanteism was needed here. First, the ISP should have pulled the web site when Lott contacted them, but they wouldn't even tell him who ran the site. Secondly, the owner probably doesn't even have a legal right to the name. Courts have already ruled(wrongly in many cases I would argue, but none the less, have ruled) that the person who has the name owns teh right to a web domain with that name. For instance, a court made a family, who had reserved the name www.britney.com for their young daughter, to give it to Britney Spears' record label. They were compensated, but they did rule Spears had the right to that domain name. There have been others as well.

"AskJohnLott.org was recently hacked by someone who values the Second Ammendment but not the First."

Actually, the first amendment does not give people the right to say whatever they want, and does not protect those who lie and slander.

What a bunch 'o hypocrites at AskJohnLott.org.
