'Iceman' was murdered, science sleuths say
USA Today ^ | 8/11/2003 | Tim Friend

Edited on 04/13/2004 1:41:03 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The 5,300-year-old "Iceman" discovered in 1991 in the Italian Alps was killed by one or more assailants in a fight that lasted at least two days, shows evidence obtained by sophisticated DNA testing and old-fashioned detective work.

Scientists initially presumed that the Stone Age Iceman, nicknamed Otzi, was caught in a storm and froze to death. But a new team said Monday that Otzi's case instead has become the world's oldest, and coldest, murder case.

The use of the term "murdered" is curious. Suppose he was killed by a prehistoric version of the FBI or the BATF or the Las Vegas police. Would it then be murder or would it be a "good shoot?"

What if "Otzi" was simply a criminal who was hunted down and killed for his crime?

Must be a slow news day at USA Today. This info has been "out there" in various stories. Even The Discovery Channel revealed this information -- last year. Somebody needs to define "news" for the editors at USA Today.

"The use of the term "murdered" is curious. Suppose he was killed by a prehistoric version of the FBI or the BATF or the Las Vegas police."

More likely it was plain old tribal warfare. A more accurate title might be "killed by other humans" without adding the "cultural baggage" implied by the word "murdered".

I've followed the story on the Iceman for years.

Just add all the evidence.
1- He had an arrowhead lodged in his back. Probably took that running away.
2- His good arrows were already shot so he broke his bow over someone's head.
3- Deathgrip on his last weapon, his knife.
4- His "manhood" was missing. (The point at which he gave in to death.)

I conclude that he was an Austrian who'd got caught in the "act" with some Italian's wife. :)

Convene Greta and the rest of the Fox News legal team - we need some rolling graphics and wall to wall "Murdered Iceman" coverage.

If Geragos isn't defending, he can be a panel member.

Also, we need to have some virulent flamewars and bannings over who the real killer was.....
