Field poll silent on California recall. Planned silence?

Posted on 08/12/2003 1:08:20 PM PDT by Dane

It has been almost a week since Arnold announced that he entered the California Gubernatorial recall and nada from the polls of all polls about California politics( the Field Poll, or so as I have read from the Califonia media).

Why the silence?

JMO, but if it was Ronald Reagan being recalled "The Field Poll"(and if the recall poll results for Reagan looked as grim as they are for Davis) the "Field Poll" would have called up their buddies at the LA Times and the SF Chronicle and it would have been trumpeted as above the fold front page news.

JMO, the Field poll's silence speaks volumes. The Field Poll, the LA Times, and the SF Chronicle must be, IMO, defacating bricks, at the present moment about the recall, IMO.

You're right, you know. Look at what Willie Brown just told Reuters about the Rat chances. (probably deserves a post of its own....)

Willie said -
"We need some divine assistance."

I would say that divine assistance was granted, however, he's on the wrong side of it.

I've seen some polls, but I'm not comfortable with their accuracy.

One stated that 80% of Californians had no idea who Bustamante is. But another stated that he's only ten to fifteen points behind Schwarzenegger.

One pole put Arnold at 25% and Bustamonte at 15. Another had Arnold at 33 and Bustamonte 18.

I'm not comfortable with any of these numbers. We're in an all out political war and there'll be no end to the propaganda.

Davis has been governor for 4.5 years, but hasn't laid out a winning fiscal plan yet. Schwarzenegger announced six days ago and the press is already damning him for no specifics. Specific? Davis hasn't lofted on specific in 4.5 years.

More of the same.

Personally, I'm watching the TradeSports.com activity. They're running an actual market with people putting real money down on their bets, which is about the best way to get to what people really think. So far, A.S. is way ahead. Here's a screen capture of the recent standings:

So you are comparing Davis to Arnold?

Please Doughty, moral relativism ain't gonna work. Davis is the one in the hot seat, and from looking at the results of his being in the hot seat for the last 4.5 years he has failed.

Are you Doughty, suggesting to people on FR, to keep Davis?

Look closely at the exact conditions of the polls.

The one with Arnold at 42% was "What candidates are you likely to vote for in the election", so I could respond "Arnold or McClintock" and they would put in a vote for each. That's why the percentages are so high.

The ones with Arnold at 25-28% and Bustamante at 9% are strict "Which one would you pick?" polls. So they are more accurate in terms of predicting election results.

Hope that helps.

Asked how his fellow Democrats could best defeat the recall and block Schwarzenegger from the statehouse, Brown offered just three words. "They should pray," he said.
LOL!! (Yeah... that's gonna happen... besides, haven't they practically outlawed such behavior?)

In your initial post, among other things, you stated...

JMO, but if it was Ronald Reagan being recalled "The Field Poll"(and if the recall poll results for Reagan looked as grim as they are for Davis) the "Field Poll" would
have called up their buddies at the LA Times and the SF Chronicle and it would have been trumpeted as above the fold front page news.

the recall, IMO.

I somewhat agreed with your comments.  Although there have been a couple of polls released, there has been nothing near the type of polling one would expect if this were going in the Democrat's favor.  You seemed to attribute this to the media in the comments in red above.

If you'll note, I was also attributing a problem to the press here.

Davis has been governor for 4.5 years, but hasn't laid out a winning fiscal plan yet. Schwarzenegger announced six days ago and the press is already damning him for no specifics. Specifics? Davis hasn't lofted one specific in 4.5 years.

More of the same

This is a clear double standard.  Schwarzenegger is being demanded to provide exact policy fixes, that Davis hasn't never been asked to provide in 4.5 years in office, and during one campaign for re-election.  Why should Arnold have to provide a plan that Davis hasn't provided at all even after all this time?

So you are comparing Davis to Arnold?

This wasn't a comparison of Davis to Schwarzenegger.  It was a comparison of how the press has dealt with Davis vs Schwarzenegger, clearly a double standard.

Please Doughty, moral relativism ain't gonna work. Davis is the one in the hot seat, and from looking at the results of his being in the hot seat for the last 4.5 years he has failed.

Moral relativism?  Dane, get a grip.

Are you Doughty, suggesting to people on FR, to keep Davis?

Oh I think you're capable of understanding where I'm coming from.

More like buying stock options. If the given outcome happens (for example, if a particular candidate wins) the payout is 100. The column 'last' is the price of a contract on that outcome. So if you wanted to take a flyer on Arnold, you'd buy a contract at the current price of 55, and if he won, you'd be paid 100 for a profit of 45. People think Arnold winning is far more likely than any other outcome, so the price of that outcome is considerably higher.
