Choose Life Plates On Sale and ACLU Won't Challenge This One

They're refusing to be silenced. A pro-life group has found a new way to express their freedom of spech - after a federal judge silenced the alternative. Remember that ban on specialty license plates? A division of the Knights of Columbus, called the Knights for Life, have found a way to get around it. WAFB's Jennifer Hale has the story.
"It's beautiful - it's really beautiful." It is the new scheme pro-life forces have devised to get around a court order blocking them , and everyone else, from having specialty license plates. The Knights of Columbus is now selling "Choose Life" plates for the fronts of cars. Ed Jeanfreau said, "My goal is to have 20-30-thousand of these plates on automobiles."
Earlier this year, Louisaina began issuing a "Choose Life" plate for the backs of cars that also served as a regular license plate. But the ACLU challenged it in court and a federal judge ended up ruling it and the state's other 176 specialty plates unconstitutional. Jeanfreau said, "It's the best thing to ever happen to us because now we'll all stand up and be counted." Jeanfreu says instead of discouraging them, the judge's ban is firing up anti-abortion forces more than ever. He spent the day delivering plates to places like the Catholic Life Center, that will send ordering information to every member of the church. Julie Orr works at the Catholic Life Center, "I think Baton Rouge is definitely pro-life and people will be glad to put these on their cars."
Interestingly enough, the ACLU didn't challenge this plate. A spokesman says it's a constitutional way to express freedom of speech as long as its on the front of cars - not the back. All proceeds from the $15 dollar plate and the $10 frame will go toward supporting programs offering alternatives to abortion.
If you have a specilaty plate now - including the first version of the "Choose Life" plate or an LSU or Southern plate- you don't have to turn it back in. But you likely won't be able to renew it next year unless state lawmakers re-draft the law about specialty license plates.

LOL - Yea they couldn't hide their "true" feelings completly!
BTW - The plates and frames mentioned in the article are available for all states, though some states require DMV plates on both front and rear of vehicles. But frames still can be used in those states.

Florida Right to Life fought long and hard for our
Choose Life...plates.
I am a proud owner of one.
It's an eye catching yellow background with 2 children's faces (child-like drawings)....and the words Choose Life.
One could look at it and say....'What's controversial about that!!'
But believe you me, they were hard getting!!!!
I love this story!!.....When one door closes, God opens another :))

And btw, good going in getting that letter to the Chattanooga Times.
I'm a Chattanooga native, and last I heard...(& from years living there)...the Times is the liberal rag.

I'm surprised the ACLU didn't just come out with their OWN personalized license plates: "Choose Death!"

Back of car = Unconstitutional
Front of car = Constitutional
It's amazing what emanations can be found in the Constitution's penumbra, isn't it?

Oh, don't think for a minute the ACLU won't at least try to challenge these. I'm sure they'll be branded as "hate statements" (in their warped view of things, "hate" equals anything they don't agree with), at the very least.

anybody that has these tags on your vehicle: Have you ever had someone vandalize your car or leave you a note or a nice scratch or anything? I am wanting to get one of these, but my wife is concerned we would be just setting ourselves up for some Pro-deather to key us.
To: cpforlife.org
Could you e-mail me the directions for ordering a plate and two frames? ... I have a bumper sticker that has a baby seal with tear in eye, reaching out to point to the message 'Save The Baby Humans ... Stop Abortion.' When I put it on my bumper, someone took the liberty of ripping and scraping it off in a parking lot. I placed another on a card that goes inside against a back window. I've got some nice 'key scratches' on the van from persons not in agreement ... just imagine how it will gall them when the tag and plate holders go on!

These were the two constitutional "sources" of the right to privacy used in Roe v. Wade. Seriously.

Aren't personalized liscence plates a civil liberty? Freedom of speech? Here's a little irony in the freedom of speech issue of pro-life publicity.

The ACLU says it's OK as long as it is in the front and not the back? Did I miss the election granting the ACLU dictatorial powers over my car and my life?
To: Libertina
Amazing, I spent three years in law school and missed the part in the constitution that said it would be ok for the front of the car, and not the back.
I must have called in sick that day!
