I think a fitting punishment for the perpetrator would be to reprimand him and then quietly transfer him to another prison.

I have agree with you on the merits. But this pervert caused more damage and verbal persecution of the Catholic Church than anyone else in history. You could cause the harm he perpetrated on the Church had you sat for 40 years and tried to devise a plan of destruction. There are are many Catholic priests out there who won't wear the Roman collar in public for fear of their safety. But he should have. Child rapists should be executed for their good and the good of society. It would help clean off some of their karma (i.e. sin) and the world would be a safer place, since people who molest or rape kids do it repeatedly.
