SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Department of Homeland Security may review its criteria for admitting people to the United States after California granted illegal immigrants the right to obtain drivers licenses, a senior official said. "Certainly we have to review our policy among inspectors on the border and their reliance upon driver licenses," said Asa Hutchinson, undersecretary of border and transportation security. "If you do not have integrity in the driver licenses that are issued, the integrity of those documents, the security of those documents, then it really undermines the whole premise of allowing U.S. citizens to travel abroad and come back with limited proof of U.S. citizenship, without a passport."

"A driver license never has been a valid immigration document and it never will be, but it does make it easier on an inspector," Dorcy said. "It's secondary evidence."

There you have it. Davis has guaranteed much misery for America.

With the bastardization of state drivers licences and the rampant forging of Social Security cards and numbers, is it time for a national ID card?

A referendum is in the works. 374K signatures are required by 12/4 to quailify for the 3/2004 ballot. If the signatures are obtained, a stay will be in place until the ballot is voted on in March. CA is fast becoming a state ruled by referendum and proposition, since the legislature does not have the majority of the electorate's best interests in mind. The CA Republican Assembly, a conservative group, is funding the effort. Jeez, two Gub-mint oficials in two days.....

Yesterday, the cheese head , fearless leader of the FBI said he saw reason to be concerned about issuing drivers license to illegals, and now this guy today.

I see a serious case of common sense washing over the power elite of this country.

For the purpose of entering the country, we already have a national ID card. Its called a passport.

I wish government would quit using the drivers license for purposes other that showing you know how to drive a car.

Our borders need to be *MUCH* more secure, and any step taken toward that goal is a good thing. Perhaps passports should be required to travel between the US and Mexico.

But I find it absurd that the federal government is modifying the way it handles immigration control just because Red Davis and his Leftist cronies in Sacramento passed an ilegitimate law granting CA state driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Instead, the feds should be vacating the SB60 (and indicting Davis et al.).

No, it hasn't, but the immigration folks have relied on it for years. I have always taken my passport with me whenever I leave the country, even if it is not required, as in Mexico.

The easiest thing for the INS to do is to require passports from US citizens on re-entry into the USA. Of course, lots of folks don't have them, but it's a pretty good way to insure that US citizens can be properly identified on re-entry.

Yes, but will they do anything more than pay lip service to the problem of illegals. Talk is cheap. Let's see some action.

"CA is fast becoming a state ruled by referendum and proposition, since the legislature does not have the majority of the electorate's best interests in mind."

Which begs the question, "how did these left wing knuckle heads get elected if the majority of the state's electorate doesn't support their views?"

Answer: Voter fraud. The primary weapon in the DNC election day arsenal.

I have a problem. I need someone to clean my apartment. But I don't think I should be hiring illegals. What's a bachelor to do?

Hutchinson, responding to questions about the California measure, said drivers licenses represent a growing challenge for immigration inspectors.

"If drivers licenses are given to people who are illegally in the country, then that puts an extra burden and difficulty on our inspectors at the border, because then we not only have to worry about the validity of all the state's drivers licenses," he said.

The solution just writes itself, doesn't it?

Just make it so the Illegals are here legally, and the burden goes away.

You watch, these crocodile tears over Illegal Alien drivers' licenses and Mexican matricula consular IDs are a set-up for an Amnesty. Here's what it's going to look like...

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn launched his first major legislative initiative Thursday, calling for a guest worker program that would enable millions of undocumented immigrants to legally live and work in the United States for up to three years.

< snip- >

Cornyn described his proposal as a moderate approach that would bring undocumented workers "out of the shadows" and give them jobs without granting blanket amnesty and U.S. citizenship. Immigrant guest workers could stay a maximum of three years and then apply for "green cards" to become permanent residents in the United States.
Dallas Ft. Worth Star-Telegram ^ - July 11th, 2003

These politicians truly have no shame. Not only do they use the deceptive "undocumented immigrants" instead of the more accurate Illegals Aliens, this guest worker program is a stepping stone by which the Illegals will gain permanent residence in stages. That way, no one stage can be called, in their doublespeak, a "blanket Amnesty."

None of the stages of a Saturn V could be called a rocket, but together they still took us to the Moon.

Cornyn's "guest worker" program is the first stage of a planned Amnesty for millions of Illegals.

I hope you're right. We have to keep the pressure on, keep writing to them and complaining about this mess. Gray Davis is a traitor to America.

As one who use to live in Bob Dornan's district when Sanchez first challenged him for his office, I can personally vouch for the voter fraud in the district. That being said, Dornan, who I liked had grown arrogant and thinking the seat was secure and he was unbeatable which left him open to a "left upper cut"...hence a knockout! We in CA are responsible for the morons we elect. I have Rohrabacher who is backing Aunold and believe you me I have written him the "riot act" for that plus I will let him know in no uncertain terms in person how I feel. Bottom line, as Californians, we have nobody to blame for our mess but ourselves and if we don't elect Tom McClintock for governor, the next 3 years are going to be as bad if not worse.

What has this administration done to clean up voter fraud? NOTHING. Where's George Waldo Bush on this issue? With Tom 'water me twice a week' Ridge can only tell us that we are going to have another attack. So secure the borders, Tom, and stop this illegal treasonous drivers license act in Calif & if you don't have the authority lean on Ashcroft. Bottom line is this administration going to protect us or not?

I've just perused a few state Drivers License web sites at random.

Folks, there's lots of states in the U.S. whose licenses are no guarantee at all that their holder is a U.S. Citizen. Illinois and Indiana to start (I took a look at Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio). I'm sure there's lots of others. They *are* meant to be positive ID, as they require a non-citizen to show a foreign passport and visa or various INS docs, but the bottom line is that you don't have to be a citizen to get a license, and possession of such doesn't mean you're a citizen.

If Califorians, unlike all other americans, are required to show a passport to enter the US from Mexico, the whole legislature just might get lynched
