I'm willing to wait until there is a shortage before we enact legislation to correct a shortage.Oh they'll "fix" this problem. The fools in congress were busy approving more H1B's and the like while the dot-coms were imploding and the IT industry was begining it's walk of death into the land of lay-offs.

What irony! Holyoke, MA, is the center of the Five College Community, including Smith, UMass, Mt. Holyoke, Amherst College, and Hampshire College. Collectively, they are responsible for producing about 85% of the country's BA, MA, Ph.D., and Ed.D. "graduates" in such essential fields as (and NO, I am NOT making this up) Victims' Studies; White Racism; Multicultural Studies; Diversity Studies; Islamic Studies; Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Studies; Education; Aboriginal Peoples' Studies; and many more. All of these, of course, are highly sought in the real world of international finance, business, manufacturing, and information technology.
Oh. I almost forgot. Admission to these schools is on a strict sexual orientation, racial, and ethnicity quota basis. As of several years ago, less than 1/6 of the students in the UMass school of graduate business studies were white men. The average SAT at UMass is 230 points lower than it was for the class of 1968. Time to learn to speak Japanese...

Georgia jumps to tops in new jobs:
In the ragtag race toward economic recovery, Georgia last month jumped to the front of the pack to lead the nation in job creation.
In July, the state's employment grew by 18,700 jobs, bettering runner-up New York, with 14,900 new jobs, according to Victoria Dinkins, an Atlanta-based economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Twice the good news: Reports of 1,000 new jobs in the Edgecombe-Nash area is grand news indeed, but the ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for Universal Leaf North American U.S., Inc. gave area residents two times the cause for celebration.

As someone who has employed people on the lower end of the skill ladder for two decades, let me assure you that the shortage of this type worker is well underway and has been for a long time. It's a nightmare trying to find someone who will work hard at a basic indoor retail type job, dependably.

Yes, this is the same thread from a week ago and it is still the same old garbage to try and get more H1b visas allocated. I note all the advocates of teh current trade envirornment will suddenly become all for government intervention in the marketplace via increased h1b visa to keep wages down. Same old same old.

You know, I sure notice a severe lack of Object Oriented Programming jobs in C#.NET with a MS SQL back end in the Investment or Health Information Services arena located in or around the perimeter of Atlanta paying at least 75k an annum with full benefits.

It's a nightmare trying to find someone who will work hard at a basic indoor retail type job What is the incentive? The pay is horrible. Benefits non-existent. Dealing with the public is tantamount to torture. The hours are terrible. No holidays off, weekends, nights.
And you could lose one crappy service job and just keep making your way down the street picking up new ones.
