Debate Terminates Arnold
SEPT 24 2003 | tomasUSMC

Tom wins Recall Debate. Camejo a close number 2. Bustamonte way back in third. Arnold and Ariana locked in death wrestling match dead last.

Tom crushed the competition today, well everyone except for the green party guy who kept repeating something that for some reason no one could counter - that the rich in California pay a lower tax rate than the rest. Humm. Some of the knockout hammer slaps issued by Tom where, for example, the ONLY statement opposing Illegal immigration- " .. we have millions willing to abide by our immigration laws but, Illegal Immigration is tantamount to cutting in line. Another crushing blow by Tom was:" People are taking their families and companies from beautiful California to the middle of the desert because of the Davis administration. Wow. He was the only one who even pronouned the words Pro Life, all the others where silent, except for Bustamonte who stated he was pro-choice. And then putting the last nail in Arnolds coffin, Tom stated in his closing remarks: He was the only one to pledge - No tax increase and also to cut spending.

Arnold showed complete disrespect to the debate process. Constantly interrupting Bustamonte and Arianna and engaging in Personal attacks on both of them. (Clearly Arianna attacked him personally also.) Arianna stated it well, "Ok Arnold, lets see which person with a foreign accent can speak loudest." If he thinks he'll be able to shout down all of them in Sacramento, he's nuts. During one of the Arnold/huffington skirmishes, Adriana told Arnold that is much ballyhood Help the Children Program that Arnold helped pass was nothing but a publicity stunt because it was not funded. Arnold then cut his own throat by replying that the bill had a spending trigger that would only activate once the budget woes were taken care of. Well, that means that his precious little bill will never get a cent! If he felt so strongly about the chlildren he would not have supported that spending trigger.

Its clear all the media is for Arnold. He was the only one given time after the debate on all the channels to explain how he felt after the debate. And Arnold may have realized he had not done well when he said that he hoped to work with Tom in Sacramento. That's if Tom will have him.

I watched the previous debate where the four lib candidates together with two moderators gang-banged on McClintock.

Tonight Tom finally had a moral support and I think he was glad to have the Terminator at his side. Side by side it was obvious that Arnold had leadership ability, he could stand up to the obnoxious shrills coming from Arianna - she is just so accustommed to interrupt everyone (a woman and an immigrant) and to talk over - it requires an even stronger ego to shut her up. Arnold has such ego. He has a personal magnetism (can't be a superstar without) and he had shown he could persuade and lead.

McClintock is of course a true specialist, but without the personal power over people. At the question time after the debate Arnold highly praised Tom and said Tom was going to be of great help for him in Sacramento - looks like they have a deal.

You got most of it. He's staying in till the final week in case Davis tries to late hit A.S. Davis can't use his smear ammo if there is a viable alternative. T.M. will be out by October 1.

He also wants to make people feel gratitude to him for getting out. Letting it build a little more builds up that sense of panic among Arnold zealots. He''ll close ranks by next week. IMO

Let's see: 20% of $20,000 = $4,000. 15% of $1,000,000 = $150,000. So the rich guy pays a lower tax rate but ends up paying more in total dollars in taxes.

Let's face it - we need both of them!

Arnold is the leader image needed now to put the
fear of God into that bunch of socialists up there.
Tom we need for his knowledge, expertise and
experience. I think there should be a special post
created for him. Auditor General? Any ideas?

And remember, the whole bunch in Sacramento knows what
will happen to them if we find they have lied to us or
changed course without a very good explanation.

Right. Tom knows the issues and I agree with him. BUT, Arnold, who was much better than many thought he would be, has that intangible thing called leadership. If CA is going to be resuscitated, it will take someone with that kind of personality to convince the people to do what needs doing. Tom just does not have that.

I had to come out of lurkdom to completely agree with you.
Tax Boostamonte managed to avoid displaying his fascist-racist underbelly, good for him. I will vote for Arianna when she runs for PTA prez.

I suspect no, not yet anyway; Tom's too principled to do that. But he knows that his chances of winning are minimal now, and he wants to be able to garner mainstream GOP support in the future. If he savaged Arnold like this was his (Tom's) last ever race, and lost, Tom's name would be mud with 60% or so of the GOP supporters for decades.

SOC -- Same Old Crud. Spare me, comparing an honest, principled man with Clinton. Your actions are really sick. The only person in this race who can be compared with BJ Clinton is your man Arnold, with his group sex and dope smoking. He and Bill could be buddies. After all, Arnold said he was ashamed of the GOP and would never forgive the GOP for impeaching Clinton for a "human failure." Quit your suck up for Arnold. Clinton did not commit a human failure. His crimes were prejury and obstruction of justice -- and your boy stands up for his man. GIVE US ALL A BREAK.

You should put "Vanity" somewhere in the headline. Nothing wrong (unofficially) with posting the occasional vanity post; just label it as such in the headline. Otherwise, FReepers take it that some published article out there carries that headline, and that you're just reprinting it here.

I figured it was a New York Slimes or CNN article myself ! :O)

I've got a suggestion. At this point in the election, why don't we leave it up to the Californians to debate on who should replace Grayout Davis?

LOL! I was wondering what you were thinking. I've offered the bet several times. You appeared to be the first taker.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Debate Terminates Arnold

Talk about wishful thinking.

Before anyone can be elected, the recall must first be approved. Whether or not the recall is approved has a lot to do with the choices other than Gray Davis. Those who do not want a recall will vote for Bustamante just in case their vote against the recall does not prevent it from happening. Those who do want a recall but do not want a social conservative will vote for Arnold. Replacing Arnold with a socially conservative ideologue will not, though, result in all the previously for-Arnold votes going for McClintock. There will be a certain number of people who will say that having McClintock replace Davis is nothing value added and so will either not vote at all or will vote against the recall. Given the closeness between the for and against recall numbers and the distance between McClintock and Bustamante, a McClintock-only Republican choice will result either in no recall and the retention of Davis or the election of Bustamante.
