CINCINNATI -- A local money-laundering operation that allegedly shipped millions of dollars to the Middle East has been stopped with the arrest of the group's alleged ringleader and more than 20 other people, officials announced Thursday.
Omran Saleh (pictured, below) was among 23 people arrested, most of whom are of Palestinian descent, Thursday, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Brian Hamrick reported.

Among the items allegedly stolen by the group were dozens of cases of cigarettes, Sudafed, Tylenol, Crest White Strips, malt liquor, glucose blood test kits and glucose blood test strips. Now there is an odd list. But all high priced light items.

This is interesting. I have a friend who was in the coastal area of California recently. He saw a large truck back into the driveway of the cottage next door to where he was staying. The cargo appeared to be boxes and boxes of cigarettes delivered to the occupants of the home who are of Arab decent. Perhaps this is a nation wide crime. I told my friend he should contact the police when he told me this. I must show him this thread.

Yes, it is and it's getting bigger. The punitive cigarette taxes have created a new black market at the same time the above ground economy is in the tank.
I have collected dozens of stories of cigarette black marketing being used to fund terrorism. It is much harder to catch the black marketeers because they are after all dealing in a legal product. The crime of evading state cigarette taxes fills the nitch between high risk selling of street drugs, and low risk legal retailing. The tobacco nazis have created another monster.
To report stolen, hijacked, or siezed cigarettes call the ATF at 1-800-659-6342.

This is important. Any activity - legal or illegal - can be manipulated in such a way as to divert money to terrorism.
Pro-druggies on FR are always screaming that the Government is after them and that they're being persecuted. But the fact of the matter is that any business that is divided into small units (whether the unit is a street corner drug dealer, a gas station, or any other small retailer or shipper) is prime material for terrorist financing, and should be scrutinized.
Sometimes these crooked little businesses are doing food stamp fraud or something similar just to line their own pockets. But sometimes, it's a lot worse than that.

Shortly after 9/11/2001 it was reported that arab run tobacco shops were likely a source of cash, for terrorists.
