Who will substitute for Rush Limbaugh?
October 10, 2003

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh announced during his radio show Friday that he is addicted to painkillers and is checking into a rehab center to "break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me."
"Immediately following this broadcast, I am checking myself into a treatment center for the next 30 days to once and for all break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me," he added.
The show will continue during this time, of course, with an array of guest hosts you have come to know and respect. I am not making any excuses. You know, over the years athletes and celebrities have emerged from treatment centers to great fanfare and praise for conquering great demons.
They are said to be great role models and examples for others. Well, I am no role model. I refuse to let anyone think I am doing something great here, when there are people you never hear about, who face long odds and never resort to such escapes.
Prayers go out to Rush and his family during this time of need.
But a question that lingers in my mind is...who's going to fill in for the great Maha Rushie while he's gone?
Who are some of your favorite guest hosts and who would you prefer fill in? I know there will probably be many different people over the next 30 days but I'd like to see a possible list of names of talk show hosts and celebrities that would jump in to help their friend.
Tony Snow filled in for Rush when he had his hearing surgery. That was excellent to help a friend in times of need.
Nothing against Walter Williams or Michael Hedgecock? But those guys always fill in for Rush.
I'd like to see Rush's brother David fill in for him. Maybe even Rush's wife whom Rush mentions on occasion.
David has proven to be an excellent man.
I'm attempting to think of other Conservative commentators without 9-5 jobs? Its pretty hard to find those Conservative Commentators that don't already have a full time job.
How about Dennis Miller or Al Michaels.
I would LOVE to see Al Michaels fill in for Rush while he's gone.
Ted Nugent?
Ann Coulter already has her own radio show I believe.
Laura Ingrahm already has her own radio show.
Hannity's already got his plate full. Brit Hume has his plate full.
I think the final analysis is that there isn't anybody that can rip into the liberals like Rush can.
Rush did indicate on his show today that his brother David might be on the show.

Mark Belling from WISN in Milaukee will probably be one of the substitutes.

Rushes greatest shortcoming is his failure to create duplicates of himself. There is more than talent involved, and other radio hosts with talent need some lessons in Rush's delivery.

David Limbaugh would be a GREAT IDEA.......or Tony Snow is my second favorite. Sean has his own show now so that probably wouldn't work. Larry Elders has been trashing him today so I wouldn't think he would be good at ALL!!

We will see.
David Limbaugh would be an interesting guest host. I don't know if he has been a guest host before, but I have never heard him on the show. I have read a lot of his writings on the net and he is conservative and coherent.
Of course, Walter Williams is a MUST-LISTEN-TO guest host. I always enjoy his guest host appearances. He is quite possibly the most intelligent guest host ever.
And then there is Rodger Hedgecock, former mayor of San Diego and a local (San Diego) talk host in his own right.
Maybe Sean Hannity will pick up the Golden EIB mike.
I also hope that Rush and Company will allow some new conservatives to fill in.
Rush stood up and admitted his problem. He took it on the chin like a man.
I am a Rush/24/7 subscriber, and will remain so.

I'm sorry if this shows up twice, but a person can only go to so much counseling and meetings. Rush is going to get bored. I say, let him air from rehab :')
To: MotleyGirl70
But doesn't Mark have his own show? Would that make it difficult?

I like/love Ann as much as anybody, but at this time I don't think she is strong enough to do that show.
She has the brains, but when I heard her host elsewhere it was not up to the class yet she gives as a guest.
I think she can get there, but at this time I would not have her host Rush's show (for her sake).
Let her do more hosting of smaller shows and then hit the national ones with the same quality as when she is a guest.

For one day I would love to see the 80 something George Putnam do the show.
He's a long standing favorite son of California conservatism and is a DEMOCRAT.
But he is about as conservative as B1 Bob Dornan if not more so.

One of the best is in Phoenix. KFYI's nearly famous Barry Young would be an outstanding choice to fill in for Rush.

Tom Sullivan, who guest hosts often as it is, and was Rush's best man is most likely first on the list. His show is regional and follows Rush on KFBK here in Sac. When he guests for Rush they have other local talent fill in for his normal slot. Larry Elder and Tony Snow will probably also fill in. I think David would be a poor choice because it would probably cause a lot more discussion about Rush than the issues of the day. I imagine Rush desires to see continuity in format and 'enlightment' at EIB.
