Diocese gives nod for Kerry to receive Eucharist

Priests in the Archdiocese of Boston are allowed to serve Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] communion this Easter even though he bucks the church's stand against abortion.
The Rev. John Ardis, director of the Paulist Center, where Kerry and his wife worship locally, said an archdiocesan official telephoned Thursday to tell him Kerry "was as welcome as any other Catholic to receive the eucharist."
The Rev. Christopher J. Coyne, a spokesman for Archbishop Sean P. O'Malley, said in an interview yesterday, "The archbishop has made no comment about Sen. Kerry and his Catholicism, nor does he plan on doing so in the near future."
What's unclear is whether O'Malley privately urged Kerry to abstain from taking communion.
In an interview with the Web site LifeSiteNews.com after January's annual March for Life in Washington, O'Malley said politicians "should know that if they're not voting correctly on these life issues, that they shouldn't dare come to communion."
Ardis, who received about 50 critical messages yesterday after word spread that he was willing to give Kerry communion, asked, "How come it's so much easier to see other people's sins than to see our own?" And he noted Kerry's positions are in line with the church's on the death penalty and "social justice" issues.
Kerry's campaign could not be reached yesterday.

If he went to confession, and is going to change, okay. But since Kerry is not going to change...
This is a real stab in the back for those of us trying to be faithful to the teachings of the Church. Ardis' comments on people not seeing their own sins is just plain stupid. The people who are complaining about Kerry don't have planks in their eyes. And the ones who have planks in their eyes now have another excuse not to pull it out!

I am sure many parishes in the Boston area volunteered to give Communion to pro partial birth abortion Kerry. The Catholic Church in Boston is in big trouble and will only go further down hill under O'malley.

Any other bishops give an opinion yet? I'm keeping score.
Kerry is OK, women are excluded in washing of feet.

Yeah, leave it to O'Malley to do this. I can't stand these bloody liberals within the Church. I wish we could get rid of them all.

This is a real stab in the back for those of us trying to be faithful to the teachings of the Church. The term for this is "white martyrdom."
No blood, just suffering.
It's an occasion of grace for you (and me) and, believe it or not, you should look at it that way.

...even though he is in an obstinate state of mortal sin and a public scandal for the Church and its members.
The clergys' blessing of mortal sin is mortal sin itself and a further public scandal.
And the Pope does what about it?
Nothing.

I agree ninenot. Abp. Sheen used the term "dry" martyrs in his autobiography's reference to the missionary Bishops that suffered at the hands of Communist powers in Eastern Europe and China. Treasure in Clay is the book's title, and fwiw, I recommend it.
I'd bet that we Catholics could put together a helluva pity party if we wanted to. Pax et bonum FRiend.

Kerry and O'Malley should be given the boot.

Kerry and O'Malley should be given the boot.
It will not happen. "The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep, but the hired hand runs away when the wolf comes." Or just sits there and murmurs a weak, almost inaudible, protest and goes back to his poetry while the lambs in his sheepfold are devoured.

Thanks. I was wondering about CA. Sooner or later Kerry will be here.
Bishop Weigand of Sacramento might speak out, depending on the fallout from the Gray Davis admonition. Vigernon has a dilemma. He is in an extremely liberal diocese, religious and politically. It will be interesting to see what he does.

"Any other bishops give an opinion yet? I'm keeping score"
Diocese of Trenton Bishop John M. Smith said it "gives him great annoyance" when Catholic politicians don't adhere to Catholic teachings,,,,,
Smith's comments, which came during a recent Respect Life Mass in Red Bank, were posted on the diocese's Web site and published in its newspaper, The Monitor.
Diocese spokeswoman Audra Miller said Thursday that Smith was away and unavailable for additional comment. "I don't think we're going to comment any further," Miller said.
Bishop John M. Smith of Trenton, NJ is annoyed but skips town.
