Here is the Vatican link to the document.

http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_31101999_cath-luth-joint-declaration_en.html

I guess calling it worthless was an exaggeration, but it did not come close to accomplishing the goals that the group had. The first part of the document goes into detail on the traditional Lutheran and current Catholic view of Justification and Sanctification. The end of it says basically that while the terminology differs, the basic workings and practical application (how a Christian should live their life) is pretty close. I agree with that.

The JDF was an attempt to remove the anathemas set forth at the council of Trent. The Appendix added to the JDF by the Vatican stated that these anathemas still applied. That is why the body of Lutheran's that contains the LCMS (can't remember the name right now, to early) didn't sign it. The Appendix basically rendered the document a publicity stunt.

However, it was a starting point. The LCMS and the USCCB have been holding several sessions of talks in the last few years. I would rather have us Christians talking than throwing condemnation at each other. Unfortunately there are some in the LCMS who see any inter Christian dialog as a mortal sin. I could go on, but basically the LCMS has decided to hold a circular firing squad.

What reeks is the lack of the so-called Women's groups, who are so "It's my body; It's my choice" when it comes to abortion.

Maybe they are so quiet because they are pro-death, not pro-woman. Wouldn't surprise me...

Thanks for the link to the document. Such sad commentary.

The interfaith communion service held at my church was quite wonderful. I never thought I'd live to see the day that would happen. I remember when I first converted to Catholicism in 1959, everything was in Latin and the Mass was largely silent. The hymns were the most disappointing.

First of all, we seldom sang hymns; and when we did, they were not the greatest music. Notably absent were all the great hymns by Martin Luther! We weren't allowed to sing them. All that is past now. We sing a lot in church, and we sing from many different sources. Some of the words may have been changed, but at least the music is there.

Yeah, expecting the "my body my choice" crowd to show up and protest Terri's execution would be like expecting Janet Reno to lend support to a "memorial" protest commemorating the return of Elian to Cuba.

And speaking of reeking, if they DID show up one would hope they would take a bath first.

"should SHRILLERY get back in the White House."

If Hitliary gets back to the White House, I'm on the next available El Al flight. No joke!

Yeah, it's pretty hysterical, alright--except that they were all deadly serious and it's such a pathetic travesty on the Life, Blood, Death of Jesus our Lord.

THX.

Good pts.

As much as it may jangle naysayers to see me say so.

the FL legislature made the change in 1999 that made hydration and nutrition 'extraordinary measures'.

Jim King is profoundly proud of that 'Right to Die' legacy . . . as regards Terri, he said in FL senate debate last week that 'the legislation is working just the way we meant it to.'

Iow, he meant to kill Terri -- and anyone else like her.

Hasn't even been bothering to answer his phone.

Btw, on Weds when we were hoping the FL senate would reconsider the bill to save Terri, they were more concerned about chickens -- as in cock fights. Even had room for levity. Then they broke for lunch -- without bringing up Terri. Sorry . . .

I wa thinking along the same lines, makes me kind of wish when Terri died that a curtain of darkness would come over the local area down there. It reminds me of an old "Twilight Zone" episode where I think it was a criminal was to be hung, I think he might have been innocent, it has been a while since I saw the episode, there was a veil of darkness around the town, no one could explain why. After they hung the man, the darkness stayed and one of the peopleh ad a transistor radio where the reporter was going on about the same phenomenon going around the world. He read the list of places including Vietnam, where in 1961/62, the war was ramping up but not part of the national psyche yet. I believe the darkness was hovering above places where unnecessary deaths were occuring do to some great injustices.

Some pointed to the darkness down there as being the home of Scientology, well, I used to get their stuff in the mail, how in the heck I ended up on their mailing list, I do not know. I peeked at it for a sec, thought, man they are nutjobs and off into the "round file" (trash) they went. If they say they came to Earth a long time ago in a DC-8 plane spaceship, well next time UPS flies in, they can steal their DC-8 and fly into space, the world would be a better place. I really laughed when they said the DC-8 design was inspired by their alien ancestors, personally, I think Douglas aircraft pirated the Boeing 707 so they can make a "me too" plane as the jet age dawned.

I think it's more likely that Florida just sucks.

I wonder if Bugs Bunny was right, maybe if we "saw it off" and let it float to Cuba, we'd be better off.

I'd say the whole state of Florida is doomed. kidnappings, hurricanes, Terri, multiple murders, 5 yr old calls 9/11...Hmm

Not to say that is it also "Africa hot" done there. When I went to Florida in 1999, the first words out of my mouth as I got out of my car were, "it's not hot, it's 'Africa hot.'" (with apologies to Matthew Broderick as the main character in "Biloxi Blues," he said the same thing)

That is so right! We went there On July 4th a few yrs ago and it was so hot that it was like walking into a wall actually. We opened up our hotel door and BOOM. Hit with this wall of heat. My ex daughter in law loves it there though. And my brother is in construction. He works in it all day.

Thank you. I give credit where it is due though. Google Image search has been a gold mine when I need to express something visually.
