Charlotte Church has whipped up a storm of controversy by appearing as a drug-taking nun and calling the Pope a “Nazi” in her new TV show.

The singer performed a range of outrageous stunts for a pilot of her new Channel 4 talk show, such as smashing open a statue of the Virgin Mary to reveal a can of cider and eating a communion wafer emblazoned with a ecstasy smiley face and pretending to hallucinate. ...

As well as branding the Pope a “Nazi” – despite performing for Pope John Paul II when she was an angelic 12-year-old – she called painfully thin actress Keira Knightley “a scrawny bird” and labelled Posh Spice Victoria Beckham "as thick as two short planks".

Church's latest CD, featuring a modern/pop sound, is titled "Tissues and Issues"; the first single was titled "Crazy Chick." Hey, if the song fits, play it.

When English-speaking crowds attended his appearances (other than in church of course), they would chant "J-P-2, We love you!" and he would sometimes call back, "J-P-2, Loves you, too!"

"Papa Ratzi" for adult RCs or simply "Benedetto" (the Italian for Benedict) sung by the young in a sing-song. They clap after each repeat: BEN-E-DET-TO! CLAP,CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP! It is amazing to hear this. The cadence gets deafening.

Well, it's all very sad. Some child entertainers do become demented during the adult years. But the hideous blasphemy deserves being called on and pointed out. Someone should throw holy water on her. Obviously there is something VERY wrong spiritually going on.

In German "Benedict" rhymes with the word for "sent," so the phrase "Benedikt Gott Geschickt!" (Benedict God sent) was coined shortly after Benedict was installed as Pope. It was at an audience with the German pilgrims that the phrase was chanted quite enthusiastically.

A voice coach can certainly help.

Most pop singers don't get proper voice instruction to begin with, and then force or push their voices until they damage their vocal cords. Only THEN do they get to a voice coach and/or a throat specialist to try to undo the damage.

It wasn't a TV show featuring a fictional character. It was a talk show, and the bits were apparently written for her personally to perform. Either way, she could have refused to do the bits, but she didn't.

Ignatius Press has every right to decide not to sell CDs of her music and videos of her performances. If folks still want to buy them, they can get them elsewhere. Ignatius didn't condemn her; they asked for us to pray for her. Sounds like she could use the prayers.

Frankly, I never liked her. It was always creepy hearing this adult voice coming out of a 12 yr old.

Personally I like "Our German Shepherd" as a nickname for Benedict XVI, and I mean that in the most loving, respectful way. I just love Benedict XVI'd voice -- it's so gentle and soothing.

Charlotte Church's antics are very disheartening and disappointing.

I'm always amazed how people like this can "figure out" that the catholic Church is a bunch of Nazis, but they can't figure it out about abortionists, Iranian Mullahs, Hugo "National Socialist" Chavez, leftists who march around in black clothes and masks beating up their enemies, etc., etc.

Apparently, in the skits and sketches on the show, she has decided that the way to make a buck and a bang is to blaspheme the Most Blessed Sacrament and call the Holy Father names.

She should take a look at sinead O'Connor's record sales over the last ten years, and then think about it for a bit.
