Jesus Christ is God (John 8: 46-59)
DRBO ^ | 1st century A.D. | The Gospel According to John

Posted on 03/09/2008 8:33:45 PM PDT by Pyro7480

"At that time Jesus said to the multitudes of the Jews: 'Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me? He that is of God, heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.' The Jews therefore answered, and said to him: Do not we say well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? Jesus answered: 'I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me. But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.' The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever. Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost thou make thyself? Jesus answered: 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifieth me, of whom you say that he is your God. And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I shall say that I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But I do know him, and do keep his word. Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.' The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said to them: 'Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.' They took up stones therefore to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple."

The above is unequivocal. Anyone who fashions himself a "Christian," yet denies Christ's divinity is calling Our Lord Jesus Christ a liar.

That would mean that G-d has died.

G-d cannot die, therefore Christ cannot be G-d.

(Did not Christ die for your sins?)

I should note that the above was the Gospel proclaimed today in the “extraordinary use” Latin Catholic Mass.

Jesus said to them: 'Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.'

"I AM." Does that not sound familiar to you?

Gogogodzilla says to you, “Amen, amen I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.”

Guess I’m G-d now, to you.

Uh, no. Why do you think they were so eager to stone him?

The body died, his spirit did not.

G-d cannot die, therefore Christ cannot be G-d.

God came to Earth and showed us how to live. The penalty for sin is death. We could not pay and still be with Him. Therefore He, who is sinless, became sin and paid our debt. Then He rose from the dead to give us eternal life.

Don't believe me. Ask Him when you're before His throne. Or read His book.

Good, concise summary.

Clearly, liars are easy to find.

Guess I’m G-d now, to you.

Really?

Why haven't you multiplying food to feed the hungry? There's no shortage of blind and crippled people. If you claim to be God these things should be easy.

If I fill some large vessels with water will you turn it into fine wine for me?

Before you behave boorishly; there are plenty of accounts of Jesus and his disciples outside the Bible. If he never rose from the dead the smartest thing His followers could do would be to stop talking about Him and spare themselves the lash. Yet many writers of the time spoke of these "Followers of 'The Way'" causing a spectacle.

After the fact revisionism.

Care to point out any texts that state that G-d is supposed to die in the flesh prior to Christ?

Anything else sounds far too much like the 2000 elections, changing the rules after the fact.

Jesus’ body was also resurrected. The tomb was empty, and He appeared again in the flesh to his disciples.

The Cross is a robust occurance.

There are a number of issues involved and they reveal volumes of the interworkings of all three persons of the Godhead.

God the Father judged the Son.

The Son remained obedient to the Father.

A separation occurred between the Son and Father prior to the somatic death.

The human spirit was separated from the human Jesus Christ, prior to the soul and body being separated.

The soul departed and the body physically and biologically died.

His soul descended to Hades, explicitly to Abraham’s Bosom, also referred to as Paradise.

His spirit was relinquished to God the Father.

His body went into the grave for three days.

After three days, God the Father returned the human spirit to the body, and God the Holy Spirit returned the human soul to the body. The body now became a resurrection body, the first fruits.

G-d already told us how to live. All you need to do is read G-d’s law.

Are you stating G-d was wrong?

Instead of attempting to rationalize away God, it is more fruitful to return to Him on His grounds, study Scripture and allow God to provide His Word so He may be understood by what He reveals regarding Himself.

If a person fails to study Scripture through faith in Him, the Word is not without effect, but will merely harden that person’s heart. First return to Him on His grounds, by focusing on Him through faith alone in Christ alone, confess any known and unknown sin, and He in His perfect holiness is free to further sanctify the believer through His grace.

If supernatural abilities makes one G-d... then, when Moses brought the 10 plagues to Egypt, you must believe that Moses is G-d.

For Moses exhibited supernatural abilities.

Face it, being able to turn the Nile into blood, or water into wine DOES NOT qualify someone to be G-d.
