For over twenty years, "Patriot Pastor" Garrett Lear has strode the halls of New Hampshire's legislature...serving as a voice for his faith and his Revolutionary War ancestors. Today he talks with us about Real ID, the liberty deficit among Christians and his colorful outfit. Pastor Lear's church is in Wakefield, New Hampshire.

What do *you* think? Is Real ID the Mark of the Beast? A precursor to it? A bad thing? A good thing?

The 'mark' is implemented and enforced, not by government,
but by the 'religous' leader the False Prophet, aka the Second Beast.
Revelation 13.

Scripture says that we will be compelled to take the mark in order to buy or sell. I’m not interested in having anything put into my hand or forehead, and I suppose I won’t really know if it’s the “mark of the beast” until the world compells us to get it. There are a lot of other things that will have to happen before we’ll know for sure if it’s the true “mark of the beast”.

In the mean time, just say “no”.

Amen - The Bible tells the Mark is coming...what is the point of fighting it? I agree with you.

Very good point, at that, if you look at the full scope of Revelation and how things happen, if one were to live in fear, it probably should be someone bearing a 'cross' and putting some sort of religious mark on you under the guise of Christ. The Beast is supposed to come as a religious leader and a 'false Christ'. It is pop culture that has transformed him into a government suit type character.

Actually I have researched quite a bit. However, during my years spent overly fascinated (i.e. worried) with the end times, I ran across this scripture and the good Lord spoke clarity to me in that moment.

Luke 12:22-26 (NIV)
22 Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.
23 Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!
25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

In that moment of clarity, I realized that God's will will unfold as HE desires. It does not matter if we are in the end times or not, God is in control.

Further, there have been other "mark" hysterics in the past. Social Security numbers, tattoos, debit cards, etc. These hysterics are but the foolishness of men.

1 Timothy 4:12—manage your own house.

Revelation 14:9—Is the mark being placed in/on the forehead? If not then do not worry about it? If one is using only a literal sense of scripture do not interpret—it must be on the forehead.

Quit using Holy Writ as a bludgeon and go to Mass. A couple thousand years of actually following Christ might provide some insight.

I was thinking more about your statement. Based on Revelation, the ‘Beast’ will come as a religious teacher and anti-Christ, a false Messiah. Maybe this is an instruction to us to be very discerning of our religious teachers teaching a false gospel and taking our hearts away from God? Think about all of the preachers we have now (no names) who teach a message that is an antithesis of the Gospel, some not even teaching of Christ's love. What would an anti-Christ want more than people who blindly run to his ‘Church’ to hide from an external threat, like a technology? How much are we playing into his design if, instead of focusing on Christ, the church focuses on fear?

You don’t really believe that, do you? Do you actually think there is someone sitting around somewhere, listening in on your conversations?

Timothy 1:7-
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

1 John 4:18-
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

RobRoy: “At least that implies that it is volunary.”

Kind of like how conversion to Islam is voluntary — according to the Bible, you either take the mark or suffer the consequences [no buying, no selling, etc.].

Real narrow choices, in my opinion

So should we be teaching people to fear ‘marks’ or should we be teaching people to never reject God? I think our priority and focus is in the wrong place.

***

Christians do not “fear” the mark. They are told to reject it. They reject it out of obedience to God. He said reject it, don't take it, don't accept it INSPITE of the fact that you may need it to to buy, sell, eat. Therefore they watch for it, they are cautious, on guard, warn those who will listen.

This is not a phobia (fear). The secular world may frame it as such like they do other things that God has forbidden (ie homophobia) so they can paint those obedient to the Bible in such a way for their purpose.

Any self-respecting "literalist" would have to say "no".

Christians do not “fear” the mark.

But we are being told to be in fear of this technology or precoursers to this. See posts #62, 66, & 70.

Whatever else REALID may be, it it’s not the mark of the Beast. It may be a precursor to the mark to get people used to the idea, but it’s not the real thing.
