INHABITANTS OF THE MOON

INHABITANTS OF THE MOON

By D. B. Huntington.

From the Young Woman's Journal Vol 3 published by the Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Associations of Zion in 1892

Astronomers and philosophers have, from time almost immemorial until very recently, asserted that the moon was uninhabited, that it had no atmosphere etc.. But recent discoveries, through the means of powerful telescopes, have given scientists a doubt or two upon the old theory.

Nearly all the great discoveries of men in the last half-century have, in one way or another, either directly or indirectly, contributed to prove Joseph Smith to be a Prophet.

As far back as 1837, I know that he said the moon was inhabited by men and women the same as this earth, and that they lived to a greater age than we do -- that they live generally to near the age of a 1000 years.

He described the men as averaging near six feet in height, and dressing quite uniformly in something near the Quaker style.

In my Patriarchal blessing, given by the father of Joseph the Prophet, in Kirtland, 1837, I was told that I should preach the gospel before I was 21 years of age; that I should preach the gospel to the inhabitants upon the islands of the sea, and to the inhabitants of the moon, even the planet you can now behold with your eyes.

The first two promises have been fulfilled, and the latter may be verified.

From the verification of two promises we may reasonably expect the third to be fulfilled also.

__________________________

One truth after another men are finding out by the wisdom and inspiration given of God to them.

The inspiration of God caused men to hunt for a new continent until Columbus discovered it. Men have lost millions of dollars, and hundreds of lives to find a country beyond the North Pole; and they will yet find that country -- a warm, fruitful country, and inhabited by the ten tribes of Israel, a country divided by a river on one side of which lives the half tribe of Manasseh, which is more numerous than all the others. So said the Prophet. At the same time, he described the shape of the earth at the poles as being a rounded elongation and drew a diagram in this form; (see graphic at link) which any one can readily see will allow the sun's rays to fall so near perpendicular to the center that part of the earth may be warmed and made fruitful. He quoted scripture and proof of his theory which says that "the earth flieth upon its wings in the midst of the creations of God," and said that there was a semblance in the form of the earth that gave rise to the saying.

"... turned away from Christ."

By dangling this fake bobblehead Jesus over their pulpit, that is exactly what Mormons do.

It doesnt take discerment to know that the false prophet Joseph Smith didnt realize there would be people going to the Moon some day...

TN, do you not realize that there are posters on this thread here in 2008 who apparently believe that the Astronauts just landed in an unpopulated part of the Moon and that there may still be Billions of Quakers living on the moon at this very moment.

Joe Smith thought he could get away with preaching this kind of nonsense to his followers and they would still blindly follow him.... AND HE WAS RIGHT!

HE WAS RIGHT!

That TN, is the scary thing.

We can joke about and laugh about this because it is ridiculous. But underneath that laughter we should note that something very serious is going on. No matter how stupid and irrational some of the things these prophets have said, there are always people who will defend it. There are people who will come up with any kind of insane reason to keep following an objectively false prophet.

That is something we need to seriously ponder.

Even with this lighthearted sojourn into fantasyland, that is... reality.

People believe this stuff. People take this stuff seriously.

You’d have to be nuts to even WANT to live to be 1000 years old, in this day and age. Beam me up, Scotty!

Nope. But my relative, Roald Amundsen, found them when he got to the South Pole. But he called them inuits or eskimos...

Inhabitants of the Moon was not the silliest astronomical pronouncement by Joseph Smith

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kolob, the planet (or star or whatever) where Heavenly Father lives with his harem of goddess wives.

And how about this Nobel Prize winning pronouncement: the Sun borrows its light from Kolob through the medium of Kae-e-vanrash, and other stars receive their power through the revolutions of Kolob. Similarly, the earth receives its power through the medium of Kli-flos-is-es, or Hah-ko-kau-beam.

We evil Inmans have been asleep at the switch on this thread.

Golleee, I can’t wait to go.

You could always go to Pennsylvania and see Quakers. It's a much shorter drive than the moon. I also hear that roads are more scenic on the Pennsylvania route than the road to the Moon.

And with the price of gas at near $4 a gallon, I think driving 250,000 miles just to see some Moon Quakers is out of most people's budget.

But I can't stop you. If you really want to go, then go.

Dont forget to send a card.

I’m worried for the country even without Mormons, Ann Coulter and the presidential candidate (all of them).

“What I’m saying is that the mocking and sarcasm exhibited on this thread are not Christian behaviors whether they’re directed toward LDS, Catholics, Church of God, Muslim or any other.”

“Not a problem. I’m sure there are many who are getting a good education from it.”

I’m not a good enough theologian to know but you seem to be, if you examine your own conscious are you displaying only Christian purity on this thread?

Unfortunately I have to take your word for it or else I would already know the answer.

So were the thousand year old men getting the ten year old girls pregnant? Is that what made the Prophet get all interested in the moon?

Definitely I'm not. I'm letting pride get in the way. I'm getting somewhat offended and I'm trying hard not to be snarky. But I'm also balancing this against those who are giving offense in the name of Christ and am judging that it's worth my time to defend scripture on the matter.

Inuits and Eskimos don't live in Antartica (they're at the other end). The origins of these names are not Norwegian, and are dated to a couple of hundered years before Amundsen.

Pennsylvania roads can be horrors! We went there on our honeymoon 22 years ago. Nice country. Saw Amish instead of Quakers. We have Quakers here but they’re mostly peace activists. Sigh. Oh, send me your addy for a card...
