Looking for Scripture ... as to God choosing the authorities in place
self | October 26,2008 | vanity

Posted on 10/26/2008 3:41:25 PM PDT by Countyline

I am under the impression from previous readings of the Bible ... that there is a verse that states that whoever is in a place of authority was choosen by God to be in that office. In looking over the scriptures I have not found it. Romans 13:1-4, Hebrews 13;17. 1TIMOTHY 2:2, do not seem right.

Unless I might have had another translation. Perhaps I am mistaken. There are so many Bible scholars here, I'm asking for an assist. The election is so close now and I am looking for hope that God will choose the winner. Indeed, let us pray for mercy and for God to choose for the man and woman that believe in HIM.

Pray that God enlightens the voters, so they’ll put the right ones into office. God has given us free will and if the majority of Americans decide to follow the wrong path, we’ll bear the consequnces.

Actually, Jesus had very little if anything to do with Politics.

The Bible says that we are not of this world. This is a dark sinful fallen world. The Christian looks forward to a new earth.

95% of all people are not just liars, they are habitual liars. And politicians are probably closer to 100%.

I am a republican and a conservative. But I will not be depressed if Obama wins this election. I am looking for the soon return of Christ and I don’t subject God to the humiliation of whether he is concerned with earthly politics or not.

He created the heaven and earth and has already won the greatest controversy ever. Greater than any election. At Calvary he sealed the fate of those who reject him and those who accept him.

And that places this controversy, this election, in it’s proper perspective. In the end, it won’t mean a hill of beans.

What will matter is am I right with God and are my sins covered by the blood.

Well, that’s what the Bible says anyway. And yes, God does raise up and bring down Kings. To his glory. He will turn everything to his glory.

For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. Psalm 75:6, 7

Not what your looking for but......

1 Samuel 8:6-18

But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. 7 And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. 8 As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. 9 Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."

10 Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. 11 He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots. 12 Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14 He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. 16 Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle [b] and donkeys he will take for his own use. 17 He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. 18 When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."

Your attitude is just flat out wrong. It is that pious “I can’t be touched by the filth of politics” that got us into the mess in the first place. People like you, who hid out in churches and let the evil ones take over our government. THAT IS SHAMEFULL, UNGODLY BEHAVIOUR. It is exactly what the enemies of God want, God fearing people to stay out of politics so they can run everything.

Yes. I am a bit concerned, we are studying Samuel which God established a King for the people because they rejected God as their ruler: so He gave them what they wanted.. I'm praying that God forgives us our lack of diligence in standing up for His values and grants us mercy; forgives us and gives us McCain/Palin. Because God can do anything. I've voted already.

How incredibly ignorant! 50 million more babies will die because of people like you! Millions more around the world will face death and severe oppression because the US will be taken over by evil rulers and won't be there to do good. SHAME ON YOU!

I think Romans is indeed what you're thinking of:

1--Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

I think we could easily be in a time when God is about to use a very ungodly thing (election of someone who opposes every Christian principle imaginable) in order to carry out His bigger purpose.

For the first time in history, WOGAM (War of Gog & Magog) is immediately feasible. For example, Israel has no choice but to take out Iran's nuke facilities, and soon. The world has yet again grown extremely anti-semitic, and it's not a stretch in any way to envision Israel standing alone against a massive invasion executed under the false claim of retaliation. If indeed that "retailiation" turns out to be a Russian-led invading coalition (WOGAM), then scripture sure seems to indicate Israel will stand alone, so that there will be no question about who delivers her when God intervenes supernaturally and kills so many invaders that it will take Israel seven months to bury them.

As an American, the big question for me is: WHY would Israel stand alone against a massive invading coalition? Is it because we will have taken a massive hit ourselves and are unable to assist? Or is it because we will have by that time elected a president who abandons Israel?

My feelings about it all is that yes, God does raise up the person He wants to be our leader. I believe He has raised up Sarah Palin as an Esther for our times. But if the people want a ‘king’ and vote for Obama, He’ll let us have him, MUCH to our detriment.

It’s Romans 13, for the most part — in regards to what you’re asking. But, there are other parts of the Bible which are relevant. For one thing, you’ll recall that the Bible says that the count of the hairs of your head are known by God and that not a sparrow falls to the ground without God in Heaven knowing (and having control over these things). So, Jesus tells us that God is intimately concerned about us (and that would apply to everything that goes on around us). Furthermore, the Bible is clear that there is nothing that goes on without God’s express command or permission. Look at the book of Job for further information on that one, too.

At the same time, the Apostles did not obey the authorities when they were commanded to say no more about what God had done (in terms of a miracle that happened with the Apostles). So, just because there is some command or law (or similar thing) doesn’t mean that everything that these rules say or do is right or proper. The Apostles said that they would obey God rather than those rules.

That’s an offset to simply saying that since God put them in there, then everything they say or do is right and proper and that it’s not in contradiction to what God would have them do.

Simply follow God and His word and accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior (i.e., the Gospel message) and you’ll be fine — even if our country ends up under the judgment of God by illegitimate rulers (whom God has allowed as this judgment upon this nation).

Jesus made it clear where authority came from and that Jesus subjected Himself to that authority even unto an illegal death sentence.

John 19:

10”Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

11Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. 0”Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”

11Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

Then there is Romans 13

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

No one is a perfect “ruler” but the Lord. And the world has rejected Him. (except for Believers)

Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: Daniel 2:21
