One of the key leaders of today's most cutting-edge church movement has opened an Internet discussion on the issue of same-sex marriage with the bold proclamation that he believes "gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual and queer" individuals can and should live out their sexuality in and blessed by the Christian church.
"I now believe that GLBTQ can live lives in accord with biblical Christianity (as least as much as any of us can!)," writes author and church leader Tony Jones, "and that their monogamy can and should be sanctioned and blessed by church and state."
Jones is an author and former youth pastor who holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is also the national coordinator of Emergent Village, a loosely-formed friendship of churches that derive their descriptive name from having "emerged" from postmodernism to take the gospel of Jesus Christ into a post-Christian culture.
The "Emergent Church," as these mostly young, community- and mission-driven congregations are collectively known, is criticized by some for being "theologically liberal," praised by others as the best hope for passing the torch of Christianity to future generations.

Isn't Rod Dreher a writer for National Review? Or am I thinking of some one else. Feel like I've seen that name somewhere.
“Isn’t Rod Dreher a writer for National Review?”
You are correct

Well, it is portrayed in the Bible, so in that sense it could be considered a Biblical lifestyle. A Biblical lifestyle that ends in a spectacularly catastrophic fashion, to be sure, but a Biblical lifestyle.
I had a friend that I had known all my life. Last January he decided he was gay, left his wife and 2 kids and adopted the homosexual lifestyle.
To that point he had been a practising Christian, and very devout. Now, I have absolutely no idea what he believes.
He is a different person. Since his “coming out” we have corresponded once, and it was like communicating with a stranger. Apparently he has “always been gay”.
I had no idea: in fact I find it hard to believe. My private theory is that someone put something in his food: maybe a “gay drug” or something like that.
I wish him well. If he lives a “fulfilling Christian life” well good luck to him: I have no way of knowing. It’s not obvious anyrate.
Nothing satisfies like Possession.

(big grin!!)
The Greeks and Romans I guess had a lot of shall I say, abnormal behaviors back then regarding sex.
‘The Greeks and Romans I guess had a lot of shall I say, abnormal behaviors back then regarding sex.”
Yep and we all know how it turned out for them.

Don’t know who Pilla is. Fortunately, the sucessor of St Peter is there to try to put him back in line. But Pilla is one man, not an entire religion (though Protestantism is dying out).
Hey, let’s remember those pillars of Protestantism. Luther who joined a monastery to avoid marriage and had his ‘enlightenment’ in the outhouse (esp that he wanted to marry some nun). Or Henry VIII, who wanted a divorce. Or Elizabeth who ran the first totalitarian regime known to man. Yep, pillars of Christianisty.
“Emergent”, as in, emerging or coming out of the closet.
So he’s wrong.
Wouldn’t be the first time, I’m sure.
ummm pardon my ignorance but why do they distinguish b/w “gay” and “queer”? What’s the difference?
“ummm pardon my ignorance but why do they distinguish b/w gay and queer? Whats the difference?”
Cause anything they want is ok.
“Ask them to show a gay in any ministry or blessed position in the Bible. Theyll twist and turn and lie but there are none.”
Hey, they’ve already changed Sodom and Gomorrah to read the inhabitants were “inhospitable” instead of wicked, so I imagine they can twist just about anything.
Nothing to add here, most of these comments cover it pretty well. Technical question though, if someone can help me out. It used to be ‘gays and lesbians’, then they added bisexuals and then transexuals, now I see that ‘queers’ have ascended into the acronym. My question is - In what way is a ‘queer’ now differentiated with a regular gay person? (Just trying to keep up.)
“My question is - In what way is a queer now differentiated with a regular gay person? (Just trying to keep up.)”
I think the gays are the men who try to act like men in every other way. Queers are the flaming ones.
Just a guess.
You've never heard of the former Bishop of Cleveland, who left office abruptly not because of his open mindedness about homosexuality, but because of financial irregularities? Try Google for Bishop.Pilla or bishop.anthony.pilla
Jude 5Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own homethese he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
I guess that takes care of the inhospitality story! In fact the former inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah are now wishing that their present circunstances were more, well......hospitable.
“Emergent Church” = The Church of What’s Happ’n’ Now!
