Remembering Columbine victim Rachel Scott
Today ^ | April 20, 2009 | anon

Rachel Scott, 17, was the first victim of 1999’s Columbine High School massacre. Her parents, Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott, wrote the book “Rachel’s Tears” in memory of their daughter, who they believe was targeted by shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold because of her religious values. An excerpt. We are thankful that you are reading this book, but we hope you understand that it is a book we never wanted to write. ... this unimaginable event has struck a nerve with people around the world as many have struggled to come to grips with America’s worst school shooting. A writer for the magazine Christianity Today said, “This event is becoming a defining moment for this generation of teens.” In the past year, we have been repeatedly interviewed by the national media, we have met world leaders and renowned entertainers, and we have spoken to thousands upon thousands of people at schools, churches, and town hall meetings. We do all this because we believe that our daughter Rachel Scott has a powerful message that survives her tragic death and needs to be heard by everyone. Sorrow and serenity In everything we do, our deep sense of calling is mingled with a profound sense of sadness. The speeches we have given and the words that appear on these pages have been mixed with innumerable tears. ... we now have a powerful conviction that God had a purpose in the way that Rachel’s life unfolded. As you will see, Rachel had a growing sense that she did not have long to live. We picked up only inklings of this while she was alive, but it all became crystal clear to us in the weeks and months after her death as we read the many journals she had written.

While Cassie wasn’t asked, I do believe Rachel was asked, though the original source of that story has recanted his account of Rachel’s being asked if she was a Christian.

****I didn’t hear this from the media.****

It was pretty heavily reported on much of the media. The story came out maybe a few days after the shooting. I know with time people tend to forget this but the story that Cassie Bernall, Rachael Scott and another girl who survived being shot was pretty heavily reported atleast in the Denver papers and much of the conservative christian media.

As far as the Cassie Bernall story there are people who say she was asked and there are people who say she wasn’t. Of course back then I noted that atheist.com jumped all over the story that she wasn’t asked. The poem she wrote the day before she was killed has always been inspiring for me. I have it written in my Bible.

The “police” did an AWFUL job at Columbine. They waited till the shooters murdered all they could, and then killed themselves, before counter-attacking. They thus let MANY victims bleed to death, would WOULD have lived, otherwise.
But the worst is thia! NOTE: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says “Congress shall make no law...”. The 2nd say “shall NOT be infringed!” Period! End of debate!

I’m sorry. We don’t have the ability to edit posts.

Wow. On purpose? No after the fact editing is one thing I don't like about FR's system.

Anyway, here's the title, sans quotation: 10 years later, the real story behind Columbine.

Rule number one in my book is start lobbing in tear gas ASAP and have the fire department ready too.

Yeah, that always works.

unfortunately...this has been long proven false. Rachel was outside the school and was shot along with another boy as the two murderers were entering the school..rachel and the other boy, Richard Castaldo, were sitting outside on a hill by the entrance and were gunned down...the other is also false..D. Klebold (one of the murderers) asked another girl who was sitting outside of one of the desks in the library if she believed in God..she said “yes”..he asked why to which she replied something like “because that is how I was brought up”..Dylan just laughed at her and walked away..probably because he was still in shock from breaking his own nose due to the recoil of one of his guns after shooting and killing the girl under the desk who many attribute the ‘God Question’ to...due to the confusion survivors had attributed it to Cassie Bernall (the girl killed under the desk) but she was already dead when Kleboled asked the question to the other girl, Valeen Schnurr. “Authorities” have let it go, in a sense, as the initial reports of Cassie saying “yes” to Klebold’s question gave an ailing community Hope in a time of grief. I have spent the last 10 years researching Columbine. A major misconception is that Dylan and Eric target certain groups, religions, etc. That is VERY false...they wanted to kill every and anyone they could...the initial plan was to kill 500 in the cafeteria with homeade propane bombs and cocktails and gun down survivors as they fled...when the bombs failed to go off, they entered the school and began manually doing the killings. Attributing any reason other than insanity and madness to why these animals did that is to miss what truly happened.
RIP to the 12 students and 1 teacher murdered by sick cowards on 4/20/99

The Media played up a connection that never existed. 10 yrs later, the fake connection as well as speculation that Harris and Klebold were “bullied” is still false and still being perpetuated.

She wasn’t martyred for her Faith.

Here we go again. Blame everyone but the murderers. Makes everyone feel all nice and fuzzy blaming everyone but those who did the actual killing.

Yep. She was the “original” martyr. That proved false also. Same with the black football player the media tried to push as being killed because he was “black.”

Also proved false after the investigation. They didn’t target her for her faith.

None of the students were killed because of their faith. They were killed because two nut jobs murdered them and 11 other people.

The agenda of the left was to push for more gun restrictions for law abiding citizens. The agenda of some of the right seems to be to use this as a part of their own agenda.

2 screwed up people murdered 13 others and then being the cowards they are, killed themselves.

You all can blame the cops, blame the parents, blame the faith of a couple students, trying to make them martyrs, blame some kind of bullying that didn’t exist. Fact is 2 really screwed up guys, murdered 13 people then killed themselves.

Nothing you have pointed out in any way precludes that they were in fact asked if they were Christian. I know one student said Rachel was asked as he said so on TV and I saw him say it. Another student who was nearby said he didn’t hear that but that doesn’t prove anything. Just that he didn’t hear that conversation doesn’ mean it didn’t happen.

It was one of the first things reported by the MSM as well as the black athlete being killed because he was black. All was proven false. Harris and Klebold wanted to kill as many people as they could, some even in their social group. It has also been reported that Harris and Klebold were bullied throughout school and that has also been proven false.

The story came out maybe a few days after the shooting.

It actually came out that same day. A lot came out during the event and through the same day (on Denver TV anyway) that later turned out to be exactly right. I've learned to trust what I hear first from people who are on the scene of an event, not what comes out later after the media gets their hands on it.

So wrong. The officers followed policy/orders. Do you think they didn’t want to go in, guns blazing? Most were dead by the time cops and swat arrived. That teacher was still alive and bleeding out, but they couldn’t go in because they didn’t know how many shooters. And that one kid who threw himself out the window? Tell me exactly how those cops, who did help him, could have known whether or not he was one of the shooters.

Armchair quarterbacks, armchair cops. I’m just happy you all don’t slam our military like you do the cops.

Heaven forbid the firefighters are forbidden by their superiors per policy to go into a burning building. I’d hate to the hate on here about firefighters.

not gonna argue..other than this...Rachel had ZERO time to be asked any questions..she was the first killed..before they even entered the school...Cassie was dead before he asked the question. I’m a Believer...and I’m thankful I’ll get to meet the girls one day in the Perfection and Glory of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ..HOWEVER, as stated before, I have spent the last 10 years researching Columbine and have interviewed 7 survivors from the library including the girl who was under the desk with Cassie as she was killed by Klebold....Cassie was not the girl asked the question....Klebold bent under the table, said “Peek a Boo” and shot her point blank....the recoil of the gun broke his nose and he was bleeding profusely...the girl outside of the desk was saying “oh God Oh God” over and over again..to which Klebold asked the infamous question and exchange as stated previously..but due to the fact that he was stunned from breaking his own nose and bleeding everywhere he simply told her “that’s pathetic” or something of the like, then proceeded to the library windows with Eric Harris and fired a few more shots at the police officers...Cassie was already perfected in Heaven by this time.

Rachel had ZERO time to be asked any questions

I don't know if she was asked a question, but she DID have time to speak. One of the wounded students testified that one of the killers spoke to her (as she lay on the ground) before shooting her, and she spoke back. The boy who was wounded has refused to talk about what he heard.
