Have I been much sinned against? Yes. So have you. Have I sinned against others? Oh, yes. So have you.

For me, this is a key point. Everyone sins, everyone suffers from sin. Christ is the answer to it all ... the same yesterday, today, and until the Final End.

"I know what you are feeling; I know what you are thinking. You tortured ones, you shamed ones, you innocent ones, you slandered ones; I am the One who knows, and we are actually all in this together, and quite outside of time."

Oh such a beautiful statement to meditate in the Easter season!

Thank you ever so much for posting this poignant article from the Anchoress, dear grey–whiskers!

Happy Holy Saturday, and EASTER!

I find the Catholic Church much much less offensive than Mormons. Sure I disagree with Marianism, Popeism, last rights, purgatory and the priesthood like any protestant. But Catholics are honest about what they believe and withing the non biblical beliefs and practices is the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

I don’t even find Mormonism particularly offensive, unless there’s an effort to represent it as being Christianity. That occurred in ‘08 for political reasons. Their own church fathers are on record as having said that it’s not Christianity. Proselytising Christians into the Mormon church, by representing the belief as Christian, is a problem for me.

I’ve known many decent Christians who are Roman Catholic. With a good, Christian pope and good, Christian priests, there is no reason why they wouldn’t be, so long as there is faith, an understanding of and desire for true repentance, and the primary reason for doing so. I do worry for them, about some of the “extra” things, that you mention, though. It appears to an outsider to provide several avenues to stray, and I have difficulty understanding why these “extra” beliefs are even there. Tradition, I guess.

You might want to use fewer commas.

Point out the usage of one, that is grammatically incorrect, and I’ll consider your friendly advice, lol.

I do worry for them, about some of the “extra” things, that you mention, though.

In this sentence I would have only used the last one. I'm generally not too wild about trailing "thoughs", though.

There is a dfference, between not being wild about a particular style or usage, especially in a less formal setting such as an internet forum, and that particular usage being worthy of ridicule, gentle and humorous though it may well have been.

So, there is nothing in my considered, original response to you, to which either you or your wife might deign to respond, other than amusement over a more traditional use of punctuation?

Very disappointing, that.

But the painful and incomplete news stories that have dominated this Holy Week helpfully illustrate how and why I am able to continue on in faith. Particularly during the Easter Triduum, we are thrust deeply into the crucifixion narrative of the Gospels. There, on the wood of the cross, we encounter Jesus, son of Mary, who knew shame, betrayal, abandonment, scorn, jeering, ridicule, unimaginable pain and sorrow, and submitted to them, in order to draw us into a consoling embrace that says, "I know what you are feeling; I know what you are thinking. You tortured ones, you shamed ones, you innocent ones, you slandered ones; I am the One who knows, and we are actually all in this together, and quite outside of time."

Nicely said. It is times like these where we should think of Jesus's example and his ultimate sacrifice.  We must never lose sight of the message of the gospels.

Thanks much for the ping, and Happy Easter to you as well.

To: Alamo-Girl; All

In vigil with my brother at the impending passing of his Mom and my step-mom, we found ourselves smiling at “looks like she may make it to Easter.” Is that strange? Missed Mass tonight to be with him, unbelieving and all, and he will probably finish the vigil tonight. She’s a heathen Anglican ;o), rightly anointed on Good Friday by her Bishop, and my brother as well by accident. No smoke arose! Please pray for them both. I retired home to your inspiring thoughts. As I read over this thread, I realized the by-lines must be a list of the dearest friends I have in the world. A Blessed and Joyous Easter to you all.
