Obama Bares His Soul for Easter Event
Beliefnet ^ | April 6, 2010 | DANIEL BURKE

Posted on 04/06/2010 7:41:39 PM PDT by NoCmpromiz

President Obama bared his soul before a cross section of Christian leaders at a White House Easter breakfast on Tuesday (April 6), where he spoke publicly of his faith in redemption through Jesus in his most personal terms since becoming president.

"We are awed by the grace he showed even to those who would have killed him," Obama said, pausing occasionally to glance at written notes. "We are thankful for the sacrifice he gave for the sins of humanity. And we glory in the promise of redemption in the resurrection."

Obama said the Easter breakfast, along with a recent Passover Seder and a Ramadan dinner last fall, was part of his pledge to make the White House "a place where all people would feel welcome." Presidential aides also said it gave Obama the opportunity to thank Christian leaders for their community service.

"For those who are wondering or have doubts about whether he is authentically Christian, I think today's message puts all doubts to rest," said the Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, another Houston megachurch pastor who attended Tuesday's breakfast.

Obama's father was a Kenyan Muslim-turned-atheist, his mother an agnostic, and his Indonesian stepfather an unorthodox Muslim. Caldwell, who is close to Obama and his predecessor, President George W. Bush, said he is galled by the number of Americans -- one in 10 according to a 2009 poll -- who refuse to believe Obama is Christian.

Caldwell was also one of about 20 black clergy -- from denominational heads to pastors who knew Obama when he was a community organizer in Chicago -- who gathered with the president privately before the breakfast.

If someone says they’re a Christian and talk about Christ crucified for our sins and redemption, then it is not within my power to see inside that person’s heart and call him deceiver just because I hate his politics. Careful. (emphasis added)

Ummm... maybe you had best be careful... Your exegesis is a tad flawed.

Just because someone SAYS the right words doesn't give them a get out of hell free card. Read Matthew 7 and the parallel in Luke 6. Then argue with the One called Jesus (that would be the Real One, as opposed to the commie poser in the whitehouse...) because He said:

Matthew 7:21-23 (NIV)

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Remember that in context, this is in the same passage where He gives us the ok to examine the tree and its fruit, whether it be a false prophet, a next door neighbor, or a phoney messiah in DC...

Oh please...get off your theology lesson. The scripture applies to discerning. If you don't understand that I don't know what to tell you. I did not specify the verse number. You jumped on V16 on your own. Read farther down including V20. It's about discernment and can be applied to everything in life involving people.

I’ll bet you a Cadbury Egg that Obama did not write his speech.

Do I get the Cadbury egg anyway? We all know he didn't write it, so that's unfair ;-)

"We are awed by the grace he showed even to those who would have killed him," Obama said, pausing occasionally to glance at written notes.

So Christ wasn't actually killed? So those who would have killed Him (note the article fails to capitalize properly) were somehow miraculously stopped? Obama needs better notes.

Obama's (or his speech writer's) vocabulary is imprecise, to say the least (sometimes it is downright deceptive).

And it's intentional...

Jesus’ last words on the cross — “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” — especially resonate with him during the Easter season. “These words were spoken by our Lord and savior, but they can just as truly be spoken by every one of us here today,” Obama said.

The quotes I read attributed to Obama, might have also come out of the mouth of the Adversary. They are merely statements of theological accuracy, but I have not seen a profession of faith through what God provides by Obama.

"We are awed ... We are thankful ... And we glory ...

Doesn't there have to be an "I" there somewhere for a faith to be personal?

It is about discerning FALSE PROPHETS, it does not have universal application. You cannot make it say something it does not, that is reading into the text (eisegesis) not reading OUT of the text (exegesis).

There are other verses that discuss your point but ‘by their fruits’ isn’t one of them.

Part of what is wrong with ‘feel good Christianity’ is a definitive lack of proper exegesis. Sad really.

BTW, theology is my job (or at least one of them).

obama can believe all he wants but he has to receive Jesus into his life and show the fruits of conversion. So far, he has not shown respect for life (supports abortion) or Israel (he walked out on the Israeli prime minister and called for Israel to stop building housing on the land that they won in one war).

Even the demons believe in Jesus and tremble.
