Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

You've got iron deficiency anemia? Or some other kind? I got an iron deficiency anemia diagnosis a year and a half ago, and it took me the longest time to get my iron up to standard. It still isn't quite there: I'm at 11.8 and the so-called normal is 12 - 16. My rheumatologist started saying t'heck with little wimpy dosages like 335 mg (and shoveling down smoked oysters and chicken livers) and bumped me up to one 5 GRAM pill of ferrous sulfate per day, and then TWO, and then THREE (15 Grams! Damn!)

Awful constipation: be warned. Invest in a big "value size" jar of polyethylene glycol NOW, and start taking a dose of it every day you take iron, without fail.

Polly Ethylene would be such a cool name for a baby girl.

Not.

Oh, and BTW, polyethylene glycol doesn't have any adverse drug reactions or side effects that they know of (unless of course you take too much and get the runs.) Apparently it actually enhances the absorption of Vitamin D. Small whimpering "yay".

I’ve been having a total system shutdown (me, not the computer ;-) about 2:00 every afternoon. Since this correlates with the time I was out of vitamins, I think it’s related. The new supply arrived yesterday, and I’ll take some as soon as I eat. I always tend to low iron between pregnancies.

And now it’s time to pray!

I find if I carb out, I can expect a crash in an hour or so. So when and how you lunch might bear some thinking.

When it comes to what OTHER people eat, most of us are FULL of .... advice.

This is your heat wave, wake up, pray, go back to bed call.
The sun comes forth from his chamber like a bridegroom,
Like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
He rises at one end of the heavens,
And his circuit leads to the other.
and
[repeat after me, with groans]
There is nothing hid from his burning heat.

He maketh the sun to shine on the just and on the unjust.
I have a miracle to report: I did NOT respond in violent emotion, words, whatever to someone who did her very best to make me look like a jerk yesterday. (Not that that is so very difficult.)

But I thought of the Litany and of my bubbas and sissies praying it with me, and turned to IHS, and let her live.

Not much, but every little drop of grace is precious.

Thank you all for your prayers and koinonia.

To be given humility is to be given a chance for an increase in joy. The successes and blessings of others are now ours, because they are no longer competitors but family under one Father.

Okay. I'll stop.

I’ve noticed the discussion is changing for some but for others it’s the same MO.

I just love it that a FReeper named Mad Dawg is leading a daily thread to pray. Only in God's world.

He maketh the sun to shine on the just and on the unjust ... To be given humility is to be given a chance for an increase in joy.

I'm not sure why, but your post made me think of a song by Scott Krippayne. Even in the midst of challenges, burning heat, persecution ... winds and waves going wild ... in our life ... we can still be calm and at peace when ... God calms the child.

Don't stop Mad Dawg. All Praise be to God!

“Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility consider others as better than yourselves,” says St. Paul, who gives the impression that he had to work at it.

Self absorbed discourse on my ‘handle’:

The “immediate cause” was that I was exposed to rabies. And the idea of a Classics/Liberal Arts major who then went to seminary having rabies just cracked me up.

And I got rabies from one of my sheep, when I was running about 100 ewes, their boy friends, and babies.

Think about rabid sheep.

Now think about the Democrat National Convention.

heh heh

Rabid sheep bleat continually and are hypersexual

Remember college?

Thank you, you’ve been a wonderful audience.

I talked my vet into giving me a rabies vaccination tag which is still on my key chain.

And then, it is an almost 800 year old pun that
“Dominicanis” — Dominican, member of the Order of Preachers, founded by Dominic

can be broken up into
“Domini canis” — the Lord’s dog.

So I like to think of myself as the Lord’s Mad Dawg, and when one of my priest friends calls me “Dawg boy,” we both laugh - he’s a Dominican friar, and I’m a Lay Dominican.

If the jokes help people rejoice in the Lord, I will be happy to be the butt of the jokes. Rejoicing! (well, on my good days. ...)

I cannot change the way others conduct themselves.

I can "only" pray for them.

By the Grace of God, I can change the way I conduct myself.

"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. "

Yeah, like they say, everybody claims to love humility, but nobody likes to be humiliated. We all fancy ourselves to be like Christ, but none of us likes to be crossed.

I speak for myself here.

Continued prayers, and thanks to YOU for helping us thud-heads to remember.
