Islam Meets Catholicism as Muslim Protesters Call for Death of Pope Benedict [Ecumenical]
NewsReelBlog ^ | 09/22/2010 | Lisa Graas

Though the Crusades were fought centuries ago and are rarely, if ever, mentioned in Catholic classrooms, Muslims today who want Jihad continue to flaunt them in vengeful tones and wallow in hatred for Catholicism. So it was when Pope Benedict XVI visited the United Kingdom and was met on his itinerary by a group of angry Islamists urging for his death and calling him "responsible" for the Crusades.

Muslim demonstrators shouted "Pope Benedict, you will pay, Islam is on its way," "Sharia is on its way," "Justice is on its way" (a lot is coming our way, it seems) and threatened that Sharia would be "declared" against all who insult Muhammad. They shouted to the Pope, "Watch your back," swore that he will "burn in hell" and claimed that he "deserves the death penalty."

Anjem Choudary, who helped lead the protests, is the chief spokesman for Al-Muhajiroun, a fundamentalist Muslim organization based in England that was ostensibly "disbanded."

...The "meeting" of Pope Benedict XVI and Anjem Choudary on the streets of London, though the Pope was apparently oblivious to it, is most noteworthy because in it we see the personification of the two largest religions that are contradictory at their core....

Though all Muslims do not hold to Choudary's views, only the blind or ignorant could sincerely claim that he misunderstands what Islam teaches....

Since devout Muslims refuse to forget the Crusades and are shouting death threats to the Pope, perhaps it is time to bring this chapter of Catholic/Muslim history back into the Catholic classroom....We have not forgotten, as a Church, that the Crusades were defensive wars in response to Muslim atrocities which occurred after Islamists conquered what had been Christian lands....

Choudary also protested the Pope outside Westminster Cathedral after his Regensburg address in 2006.

The left also hates the Pope and the Catholic Church. Anyone not yet convinced of the deep and loving relationship between the marxists and the jihadis?

I don't think there has ever been an enemy that the American left has not COLLABORATED with.

The article fails to mention that the Crusades - while largely poorly executed - were richly, richly deserved.

They were launched only after four full centuries of continuous provocations.

Mussies seem to conveniently forget that the primary reason that the Crusades was to push them OUT of Spain, as they were expanding and subjugating Europe. And while the European nations were fighting for their survival, they also thought it wise to liberate the Holy Land from the hands of the Arabs. Bear in mind that the primary religions in Arabia at that point in time were Idolitry and Islam. The big black marble building that the Muslims hold holy was origionally built in honor of over 100 Idols. They simply murdered the occupants of Medina and took the Kabala as plunder.

A man of peace 24/7 towards all humans.

And the Muslims can’t cope.

The Islamic solution for pretty much everything; death.

So-and-so is causing a problem...........kill him! So-and so is rallying the Catholics..........kill him.

One can be forgiven for thinking that when their feet hit the floor first thing in the morning, their immediate thoughts turn to mayhem.

I am so sick of muslims and those that are opposed to western culture in general continually bringing up the crusades. The facts of the matter is that most of the middle east, Egypt, Turkey, the Balkans, etc were Christian. The muslims conquered those lands clear up into Spain. The crusades, conducted over the centuries, were designed to only reestablish the Christian faith in the holy land (Israel). The only apology I want to make to the muslims regarding the crusades is that we did not do it properly and liberate all the people from this pestilence of a religion.

Since Muslims supposedly invented Arabic numerals (in fact those were plagiarized from India), they should know that an 83-year-old man could not have been present at Clermont in 1095 when Urban II launched the First Crusade.

From what I have read, the Arabs had pretty much forgotten about the Crusades until fairly recently. That they are aware of them at all now is just part of the upsurge of anti-Western feeling in the Middle East in modern times...blame the West for everything that's wrong, and tell themselves that they will ultimately win just as the Crusaders were eventually kicked out of the Holy Land.

Lisa Graas does mention this at the end of the article:

"We have not forgotten, as a Church, that the Crusades were defensive wars in response to Muslim atrocities which occurred after Islamists conquered what had been Christian lands."

In terms of jus ad bellum, the Crusades were no more act of "aggression" than the Allies' landing at Normandy.

People forget that "the Christian world" as of the early 7th century had included Egypt, Syria, the Levant, all of Northern Africa to Gibraltar and the entire Iberian peninsula up to the Pyrenees, with thriving Christian communities, Byzantine and Nestorian, in what is now Iraq and Iran, along the Silk Road, even to the Indus.

People forget that almost all of this fell to the sword of Islam under the Rashidun (632–661) and the Umayyad (661–750) Caliphates, ---the Muslims had invaded and focibly taken over 2/3 of the Christian world.

Perhaps I shouldn't say "people forget." I'm pretty sure most of us never knew.
