Relationships Market After 50 Years of The Pill
The Australian ^ | 9/25/10 | Cardinal George Pell

FAR from bringing equality, contraception has redistributed power away from women, says George Pell.

THIS year is the 50th anniversary of the contraceptive pill, a development that has changed Western life enormously, in some ways most people do not understand.

While majority opinion regards the pill as a significant social benefit for giving women greater control of their fertility, the consensus is not overwhelming, especially among women.

A May CBS News poll of 591 adult Americans found that 59 per cent of men and 54 per cent of women believed the pill had made women's lives better.

In an article in the ecumenical journal First Things that month, North American economist Timothy Reichert approached the topic with "straight-forward microeconomic reasoning", concluding that contraception had triggered a redistribution of wealth and power from women and children to men.

Applying the insights of the market, he points out that relative scarcity or abundance affects behaviour in important ways and that significant technological changes, such as the pill, have broad social effects. His basic thesis is that the pill has divided what was once a single mating market into two markets.

This first is a market for sexual relationships, which most young men and women frequent early in their adult life. The second is a market for marital or partnership relationships, where most participate later on.

Because the pill means that participation in the sex market need not result in pregnancy, the costs of having premarital and extra-marital sex have been lowered.

The old single mating market was populated by roughly the same number of men and women, but this is no longer the case in the two new markets.

Because most women want to have children, they enter the marriage market earlier than men, often by their early 30s. Men are under no.........

Having sex while the woman is on the pill is like eating with one’s stomach stapled so no nutrition can be absorbed.

Both violate the laws of nature. Simple.

In trying to prevent people from naturally experiencing the results of their actions, insulating them from being responsible human beings.

But of course the pill is infinitely more damaging as millions of more people are affected by it, very few do the stomach stapling procedure.

That brings up something else - people are scorned more for being obese pigs who can’t control their tongues than they are for being sluts who can’t control their genitals. Pretty messed up.

Practical conerns are, of course, important, but that’s not what was said. The poster talked about “power”, and any young lady that thinks her body is a power struggle of any kind, regardless if she or he holds “power”, has issues.

” Men and women are really working toward different goals.”

That I agree with; both want sex, just differing reasons at different stages of their lives.

How many middle aged women complain about not getting laid? Most of them, and it isn’t for the snuggle time.

When I was younger in my early 20’s I met one girl after another that wanted to have babies to avoid having to have a career or they just had raging hormones. They had sex with strangers if need be to get them. There isn’t a 65% single mother birth rate for no reason.

I have never, ever met a “virtuous” girl or woman. Never. They all played that way and played it up hard, well, most of them, but we all knew that the second they could excuse their behavior they were naked and loving it. So, no, I do not believe women “hold out” or “wait” for the right man at the right time. Not for a second. They are as horny with their hormones raging as any man or anything else alive. They just don’t want to admit it sometimes, although that has changed significantly over the past 10 years or so. Being a “slut” is “in” right now. It gets the girl the center of attention she craves. Toss in a smidgen of daddy issues, insecurities, or just this shy of ugly and you’ve got yourself a party girl. There is a reason the Internet is loaded with more women in porn than anything else; easy girls and loads of them. It is estimated that the Internet traffic is roughly two-thirds pornography. I doubt only a handful of girls serve that level of bandwidth. There is never a loss for women wanting to be in porn.

Check out such popular products as “Girls Gone Wild!” and see what all these virtuous college girls are doing on the Spring Break. There are thousands of them and no shortage of bare breasts.

Let’s toss in the number of women that cheat in their marriage. Of all the people I have known only a few men have cheated but the number of women has been staggering in my experiences. I also know a few professional marriage counselors; it is usually the women doing the cheating. “Sex for cuddles” or “sex for marriage”? No way. It is pure orgasms and nothing else. Younger girls usually go for the attention and snuggle time; some, anyway. Many just want the casual sex.

So, no, I don’t buy the myth that women are virtuous in their desires for sex and men are just animals. Besides, I’ve never met a woman that didn’t want an animal in bed. She sure as Hell doesn’t want a “sensitive” homo crying in her sheets; she wants a MAN! To quote one woman, “I want IT, and I want it NOW!”

Actually, it would be more like enjoying a fine dining experience, and never knowing that the Chef had his stomach stapled.

When sex is divorced from the potential of children, and subsequently from any lifetime marital commitment, it is damaging for the men, the women, and society.

That is a much saner statement, and one that people can understand.

LOLOL!!!

You watch too much Sex in the City! In fact, you listen too much to the MSM. To them everyone is sexualized. Hellsbells, Progressive Insurance has an old couple about to jump on each other right on the counter. Honey, women flocking to rut is a myth. And it’s what the media wants you to believe.

I AM a middle aged woman. I can tell you right now, in fly over country, where the real women are, not a single woman I know is a “Cougar”. Seriously. If they are not in a marriage, they are not jumping from bed to bed. I can’t believe you have fallen for that crap.

You want to call it “virtuous” to follow your instincts, be my guest. Women, real women are not jumping from man to man. Yeah, you’ll find a few, in every generation. But seriously, life is not “Desperate Housewives” no matter how much the Hollywood crowd wants it to be.

Oh and btw, you’re talking to a woman who DID wait for the right guy. I was 34 before sex. So maybe you just hang with the wrong type of woman.

I AM the poster and I have explained to you the “power” that my daughters hold. The power of HER own life.
