Atheist Chris Redford: I Am Smarter Than God, and I Have Higher Moral Standards

Over the last several months I have been responding to a series of YouTube videos produced by unevangelist, Chris Redford, a former Assembly of God youth group member turned atheist. Most of his videos are professionally made, and His soft-spoken manner and “Christian” music do not fit the stereotypical view of an angry atheist.  Nevertheless, his viewpoint in the latest videos I watched can be summed up this way: “I don’t like the God of the Bible.  I am smarter than Him, and I have better moral standards.”  Few of his arguments in Deconversion 2.3 and 2.4 discuss the existence of God, and though he directly attacks the Bible as the Word of God, the videos mostly reveal his personal dissatisfaction with the God of the Bible.  For the better part of thirty minutes, he makes no appeal outside his own experience and feelings.

At one point, Redford describes his failed attempt to read the Bible through for the first time, cover to cover, at about age 22.  He eventually sets large portions of it aside as a waste of time.  His actual knowledge of the whole Bible was so thin it is not surprising that he finds himself relying on “the spirit’s leading” rather than the actual text of the Book that the Holy Spirit wrote.  The Bible warns against putting experience above Scripture:

II Peter 1:16-21:  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory,

For any person to say they are smarter than God and have higher morals than God proves that that person is irresponsibly insane and belongs in the nut house, booby hatch, insane asylum, with their own private padded cell and in a straight jacket where they cannot hurt anybody.

For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength. I Cor. 1:25.

I'll stick with the God of the Bible.

There are far smarter guys than Chris Redford who've gloriously embraced the Bible and have been followers of Jesus Christ (CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, about any Christian apologist). The problem is, he grew up in an AG church, where its main weakness is that they aren't as grounded in the Bible as other denominations

(Note: I didn't say all AG's weren't grounded in the bible, nor that other denominations didn't have their weaknesses. Just saying that that's where AG members who fall away generally fall away because of that).

As someone who's recently lost his job, filed for bankruptcy, and is on food stamps, I could've chucked it all and turned my back on God. Instead, I used this time to improve myself (I lost my job because of my stupidity), look for God's will for my life, and have enjoyed every day one day at a time.

Seriously arrogant and he was never gave his life to Christ, if he had he would never think or say such things. Everything changes instantly when you give your life to Christ, EVERYTHING. Your mind changes right away, your thought patterns, you see everything in a different light. It doesn't take weeks, it's like within seconds. He needs some real serious prayer this one. I'm sure the atheist community is just loving this and he's feeding off that adoration. It's really sad.

Please explain this away, Mr. Redford: 1) Jesus as an historical figure - even the most devout, but intelligent, atheists recognize Jesus was a living, historical figure - He was reported on by the Roman historian Tacitus and the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus within 20 years after his death — they had NO reason to play along with a fantasy and weren’t of the same spiritual views he propounded; 2) Jesus as the resurrected Son of God - the apostle Paul in his letters lists 500 different people who saw the resurrected Jesus, post-Crucifiction, in different parts of Israel - were they all hallucinating the same dream?

Without God there are no morals, only personal preferences and social conventions.

So let me put my logic hat on.

This guy is an atheist.
An atheist does not believe in God.
This guy claims to be smarter and more moral than God.

Therefore, his claim is that he is smarter and more moral than that which does not exist.

That which does not exist is nothing.

Therefore, he is smarter and more moral than nothing.

Nothing includes the subset of no one.

OK. According to his egocentric and warped logic, he thinks he is smarter and more moral than no one.

I have to agree with him, according to his terms.

***********

NOTE: God would not commit such fallacious mistakes according to the rules of formal logic.

If you say you’re smarter than god, and say you’re an atheist, then you’re not really an atheist, are you? You’re an idiot.

How can he be smarter than God if God doesn’t exist? Idiot. Maybe that statement means that he’s smarter than nobody.

Oh, look at me, look at me, I'm not full of myself, I don't really reject the foundational principle of our country and our freedom...Oh, look at me.

Another spoiled brat.

Claims to be “smarter than God” and yet admits he doesn’t “get” God’s Word.
Good luck with that, Chris.
BTW, God’ STILL loves you, even if the rest of us think you’re a nitwit.

Assembly of God—hmm—well they do put on some entertaining shows. IMO their doctrine -when it is not grounded in the
Scripture leads to such strange /dementia. Every time
I pretend I am smart as God I get slapped upside the head.
By my own stupidity. And I know my morality is not comparable to that of My Creator.

"We are more popular than Jesus."

John Lennon

If I remmeber correctly, that conversation was about the "decay" of culture. John was pointing out that the beatles were more popular than Jesus with the implication that it was not a good thing.

Wikipedia article on the quote

Oddly enough I think the wiki article is correct on this one.
